Swim
Comments: The start was a pretty steep drop off - I lined up in the middle front. I ran in and immediately got into the 3rd place in our wave and moved into 2nd pretty soon after. I had a hard time on the way out going in a straight line. I kept drifting off to the right. But it did keep me from running into anyone. On the way back I started to run into some of the Olympic waves and other sprint waves. But I seemed to have a pretty easy time swimming either around or through the people in front of me. Only problem on the way back was that my goggles fogged so I was sighting but not seeing anything :) What would you do differently?: Goggles that didn't fog would help. 2nd lesson learned. The swim was the most tiring part of the whole race for me mainly cause of the breathing I think. Having a cold didn't help any Transition 1
Comments: 64th OA 7th AG This was a long transition - I was at the end of the transition towards the bike out which was good because I didn't have to run with my bike - I am much faster on my feet without a bike :) What would you do differently?: Wetsuit is what slowed me down - I had debated on not wearing a wet suit and I am wondering if it would have made much difference in my swim time. Probably no wetsuit at Pewaukee. 3rd Lesson learned. Bike
Comments: This was a great bike for me - I pushed it hard ....maybe had a little left in me but really happy with my time. One complaint I have, and many others had the same, is that when you come into transition you came around the corner and then still had a little bit more to go until you had to dismount - this wasn't very clear and I slowed down to soon as did others. What would you do differently?: I need to work on my cornering. 4th lesson learned Transition 2
Comments: 94th OA 7th AG - this was a slow transition for me. The bike in was right by where the swim out was so again I had a long ways to go til I got to my rack. I've never practiced running with my bike so I was pretty slow there. The rest went fine. What would you do differently?: Run with my bike. 5th Lesson learned. Run
Comments: I felt great coming out of transition...maybe a little too good. I didn't have my watch so I had no clue what my pace was. I kept it too comfy the first 2 miles...partly due to lack of confidence in my speed right now. Even though running is my specialty I didn't want to blow up in that last mile. But as a result I lost time - I had a lot left and sprinted the last .5 - but looking at the pace I feel really good about my speed now. What would you do differently?: Push the run...duh Post race
Warm down: TracyV finnished right ahead of me so first thing was give her a thumbs up. I like finnishing my first tri with a friendly face ahead :) Got hugs from my girls and walked around a little to cool off althought the monsoon that hit about 45 minutes after I finnished took care of that! Watched Tammy beat her goal time in the olympic. :) What limited your ability to perform faster: I took 4th place..1st in my AG!!! All of the top 3 females finnished within a minute of my time. Thinking about my run...if I had pushed the run I could have made up time and placed some where in teh top 3...that was a big lesson learned. Obviously I have a lot more to learn and with each race I will learn something new. Event comments: This was a well organized race. The course was perfect for my first tri. I would highly recommend this race! And now I am definitly hooked on triathlons! :) :) :) Last updated: 2010-06-01 12:00 AM

This was my first triathlon. I am signed up for Pewaukee in 2 weeks and that is a BIG race and a LOT of people I know will be there both racing and spectating. About a month ago I started to get nervous and thought maybe I should do a tri before I do Pewaukee..kind of like a dress rehersal. pjgrande and mentionned that PP is a good course, well run, etc. so I took that advice and signed up. Very happy I did! Learned quite a few lessons along the way.
After being told that we should check our bike in Saturday because we had to park at a remote lot..I did just that at least the chsck part which was a pain in the ass because it is an hour there and an hour back and I made the big mistake of taking my kids. Normally not a big deal but being that this was my first tri I was just a wee bit nervous and my kids were just a wee bit annoying. 1st Lesson learned. Sunday it turns out we could park right next to transition...gee um..why did I drive an hour there and back on Saturday???
Got there about 5:15 - set up my transition and covered everything since it was lightening on the drive there and big huge clouds were overhead. Luckily it stormed about 6 and cleared for the swims that started at 6:30. I jogged back and forth to my car while watching the olympic waves go off. Found kids and husband who came seperately and then got my wetsuit on..a game day decision on that one.
