Swim
Comments: When the horn starts and everyone start to run towards the water. As I run into the water and swim, I find it difficult to swim with all the splashes and pushing around me thus decided to slow down and tried not to get too excited. I did breast stroke then once my path is cleared, I start doing front crawl. For the remaining distance I try to glide as much as possible in the water. It seems easier than expected with the bouyancy in the open water. When I exit out of the water to do a U-turn and enter the water again, I would start with breast stroke first until I catched my breath then I switched to front crawl and maintain it that way for the rest of the swim. I find that with breast stroke I am able to moderate my breathing and recover faster. What would you do differently?: The swim was great. I can't think of better way of doing it. I guess with more training on the open water I would feel more comfortable and perhaps swim faster. Will try to target for longer distance swimming in the future. Transition 1
Comments: Transition was fast. It is easy when all the items are laid out. The moment I get into the transition area, I dried my feet with the spare towel and put on my socks. Realised that there was no water to wash my legs after I got into transition only. Once I have geared up, I popped in GU gel and had some water before I start my running leg. Glad that the transition was slightly more than 2 mins only. What would you do differently?: Arranged my stuff on a basket and have a bottle of water to wash my feet before putting on the socks. Try to target transition below 2 mins. Run
Comments: It was hot but with water sponges along the way, it helps to keep me cool. Had sufficient water to hydrate. Maintained a constant pace throughout. For the last 200m, I sprinted to the finishing point. What would you do differently?: Run faster. Must train for longer distance and increase the speed. Do more transition training from swimming to running in future. Post race
Warm down: Had a lot of fluid to hydrate. Forget to do warm down (stretching) after the race. Was too excited that I finished the race. What limited your ability to perform faster: Stamina. Insufficient training. Event comments: It was a great race for my first attempt of a Full Distance biathlon. With more training, I am sure I could do better. But having completed the race within the expected target time, I think I am very satisfied with my performance today. Last updated: 2006-01-17 12:00 AM

Didn't sleep well the night before. I guess it must be the excitement of the race in the morning. Went to East Coast for breakfast. Had a blueberry muffin and a cup of latte. Arrived Sentosa, Tanjung Beach at around 8:40am. Report for body marking, had Accelerate drink (which I prepared at home) and arrange my stuff at the Transition Area. Tried to relax by taking some pictures.
Had a warm up swim at the beach just before my wave was called. I have a very good feeling during the warm up swim. The water was warm so it's great. I never like cold water. That was a positive note before the race start.
