Pre-race routine:

PB on toast, a banana and coffee before the race. Got the kids organized and the bikes racked on the truck. We parked near the start and set up our transition areas, then tried to stay warm until the start of the youth race.

I took it easy on the first run on purpose -- maybe a bit too easy. I think I could have shaved a couple of minutes off of the first run without affecting the remainder of my race very much, if at all. Live and learn.

I'm still a very slow climber, but I was much faster on the bike this year than last year. The last couple of weeks, I've been getting some lower back tightness and soreness when in aero, and that slowed me down a bit.

Somebody racked their bike right over my running shoes, so I lost about 10 seconds or so just looking for them. Otherwise, this was another good transition.

I pushed pretty hard on the bike, so I didn't have enough left for a fast second run, but I was pleased with my pace.

Warm down:

Got some water and caught up with my family. Had a piece of pizza and a banana. Checked out the results. I was a bit disappointed with my placement, but I was 11 minutes faster than last year.

Event comments:

Another great race put on by the YMCA. We all had a great time.
