Swim
Comments: The water was cold and I had opted not to wear my wet suit. We stood in chest deep water for 10 minutes before the start and I should have waited back in shallower water. I was out of breath as we started and a bit anxious about the bumping, but managed to get out of the way a bit. I started in freestyle and changed to breast stroke to try to calm down and catch my breath. Started back to free and felt ok, rounded the buoy and stroked until I felt the bottom. This was a really shallow area to swim should have stayed closer to the buoys for deeper water. What would you do differently?: Train in open water more. I plan to swim in this same place every weekend through the summer if I can before fishing Transition 1
Comments: I don't use bike shoes so I was in my running shoes on the bike. I felt ok about this part. My chain feel off twice before getting to T1 to rack my bike, so I set the gear and never changed it. What would you do differently?: Practice. Bike
Comments: Forgot my bike computer so I tried to keep my pace by counting peddle rotations between light poles. I also picked a guy to follow and tried to stay with him. This worked out ok and even passed some people on the road. What would you do differently?: Put my bike computer on the bike the night before so I know that I will have it. Put more time in on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: My legs were like rubber. I tried to stretch them a little before taking off but I was afraid to stop moving for fear I wouldn't be able to leave the transition area. Got a drink, put on my hat and took off, well started out toward the beach. What would you do differently?: Do more bike/run bricks. Run
Comments: My legs felt like lead for the first mile of the race then loosened up a bit. I wanted to move a little faster but felt that I would not finish if I did. I could hear Tom Hanks from A League of Their Own, yelling at the woman who was crying "There's no crying in baseball!". It seemed to keep me going. What would you do differently?: More running. Post race
Warm down: Stretching, hugging my support group and eating oranges What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough fuel on board. I was too nervous to eat much in the am and I didn't eat on the bike. Event comments: I enjoyed this whole experience and learned a lot about tri's and what to do to get more comfortable doing them. The times that are posted above are from my watch, the official race results have not posted yet. Last updated: 2006-01-17 12:00 AM

Almost too nervous to think, but divided running and biking gear to get set up for a split transition situation. Bike was already on site so didn't have to worry about that.
Not really much warming up. Went to the meeting site for the pre-race meeting and received timing chip and numbers. I found my bike and set up my transition stuff. We rode our bikes to T1, about 1.5 miles.
