Overall Rank = 10/193
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 1/29
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:30 (!), quickly packed and hit the road. I got stopped by a train and made it to the race only minutes before packet pickup closed.
Event warmup:

None. No time.
Swim
  • 05m 7s
  • 274 meters
  • 01m 52s / 100 meters
Comments:

Time out of the water was 4:43, which isn't too bad. About what I expected. I did OK on the flip turns, though they could have been better. I had to pass 3 or 4 people and there was PRECIOUS little room to do so. That slowed me down a good bit.
What would you do differently?:

I probably could have gone a little harder, but the main thing of course is more training.
Transition 1
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

This looks slow but it isn't. There was a LONG run into T1. My time is tied for 3rd best T1 overall. I'm pleased that I improved my T1 so much in this race. I don't think I could do it much faster except by running a bit faster into T1. Flying mount went great.
Bike
  • 21m 46s
  • 9 miles
  • 24.81 mile/hr
Comments:

I guess this was a pretty good bike. I never know whether I'm going hard enough on these short sprint courses. I wasn't moaning in pain, but I wasn't soft-pedaling either.

Alas, I witnessed a decent amount of drafting from two riders on this course. That's really too bad, because one of them podium-ed (not my AG) and should not have. This course is short enough (given that it is three loops) that really there could have been draft marshals watching pretty much the entire thing.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe ride harder? Maybe not. I don't know.
Transition 2
  • 00m 27s
Comments:

This was a fast T2. Not much more I could do. Fastest T2 overall was 25s. I was third fastest overall. I fumbled with my shoe for about a second, or I might have been right there at 25s.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 19m 57s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

I still can't run at full intensity, but I didn't have to walk or shuffle or anything -- I ran it in all the way. I think I could have gone harder at the start, in fact.
What would you do differently?:

Probably go harder at the start. I was worried about tweaking the hip so maybe going easy was right. I don't know. Why does this pacing thing have to be so hard???
Post race
Warm down:

I wandered around a bit, packed up my stuff, then met a few BTers. It was nice to meet the real people behind some of the usernames! Really nice guys, all of them.

Event comments:

A good race. I hate pool swims, and the lanes in this pool were especially narrow, but still the race was very nicely done. The bike course was fun and a bit technical, and the run course was really nice.
