Total Time = 1h 35m 16s
Overall Rank = 149/706
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 25/62
Pre-race routine:

Woke at 4am after not much sleep, left house at around 4:40 and made it to Pensacola just before 6.
Event warmup:

Tried to stay warm, did a few yards of swimming but just about froze after getting out since our wave was the last of 10 waves
Swim
  • 12m 5s
  • 600 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

time includes long run up beach where I passed at least 10 people just jogging, don't they know it's a race! :-)
What would you do differently?:

Just can't handle people on top of me. Really like the time trial start we did in Gulf Shores
Transition 1
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

again passed some people tip toeing in bike shoes, they should put their shoes on their bike
10th in age group in T1
What would you do differently?:

not get stuck in back corner! ha ha
Bike
  • 54m 55s
  • 18 miles
  • 19.67 mile/hr
Comments:

Drank as much as possible to avoid cramps, but got very gassy after drinking lots of sea water so very difficult to feel good drinking

passed at least 100 bikes, got passed by about 10 fast dudes, all on high dollar tri bikes
Transition 2
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

CRAMPS CRAMPS CRAMPS , darn it. Left calf cramped up and I couldn't pull on my running shoe, what a disaster, it took 30 seconds and lots of yelling, perhaps you heard me. Other wise everything was fine. Couldn't run properly until out of transition area so all the extra time was here in T2
What would you do differently?:

I have no idea, I drank as much as I could without throwing up
Run
  • 25m 28s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

obviously this is where I lost some ground, but I was very pleased with this time, since I am not a super fast runner off the bike and my last couple of races were more in the 10 minute/ mile range
What would you do differently?:

nothing, I fealt pretty good
Post race
Warm down:

sat on curb and poured water on head

What limited your ability to perform faster:

severe calf cramp during T2, breathing during swim

Event comments:

I had a goal of a 5% improvement over my last sprint TRI which took place in June and I met my goal improving from a 1:40 to a 1:35 on the same distances so I am pleased. I also feel pretty good about being in the top 24 percent of finishers after only starting seriously training in March. Can't wait till next season with some time under my belt.
