Swim
Comments: Grossed out by nasty water and weeds -- mostly breast- and back-stroked, plus a little front crawl, but not much at all. What would you do differently?: Get over fear of lake weeds so I can actually swim to my potential. Practice more OWS!! Transition 1
Comments: Think I might have wobbled a bit getting onto the bike, but nothing major. Socks, shoes, and towel were already wet from rain. No wetsuit made this way easier. What would you do differently?: No socks?? Learn to do a running / jumping bike mount. Bike
Comments: Tried to keep speed through turns - not something I've really worked on before, but I think I did ok with it (even with wet roads). Still surprised by how tired I feel first getting onto the bike. Remember to spin easy for a little while, then hills and speed come easier. Followed Katie S. for the last few miles, but couldn't quite (safely, I felt) catch her. "Overall" ranks are out of women. 2 Gu chomps during bike, followed by water. Also some diluted powerade. What would you do differently?: work on faster cornering / turns? practice more Sw-bike bricks to get used to getting rid of tired feeling as soon as starting on the bike. more speedwork. Transition 2
Comments: Running shoes already wet. YWCA socks didn't make my feet blister, even though soaked. Stepped onto pavement without shoes on and I think got a rock in right shoe, but it didn't really bother me. What would you do differently?: practice! Run
Comments: Finally caught up to Katie S. and we ran together for most of it. I think we pushed each other pretty hard, but she had enough for a killer kick at the end and beat me by 10 seconds. Matt passed me at about mile 1.5. Only walked through water stops! drank half a cup of water, dumped other half on head (even though it was raining, still felt good). What would you do differently?: run more! and faster. work on pacing. Post race
Warm down: Ate post-race hot dog, grapes, half a bagel + cream cheese, cookie. Stood around chatting, waiting for Ariel. Should have cooled down better and stretched before getting back in the car. What limited your ability to perform faster: probably could have pushed myself harder on the bike, and might have been able to catch Katie S. Event comments: No water at finish - only gatorade! Otherwise great post-race food. Course was fairly easy, but the rollers on the bike were fun. Last updated: 2010-06-02 12:00 AM

Up at 4:30, dress, eat oatmeal, hydrate, bathroom, out the door by 5:15 to pack up car. Drive to race, set up transition, hang around, eat cookies (2 sugar cookies).
Super short bike to make sure everything's working ok. Swim maybe 150-200 m in the lake - get used to water, floaty and submerged weeds, no wetsuit.
