Pre-race routine:

Local race so didn't need to wake up too early. Poptart, handful PB pretzels.
I was pretty unorganized with my transition area. with the rain, just kept everything in a bag. got bike rain jacket at last minute. lost swim watch until end, so that messed up my swim.
Event warmup:

squats, jacks, pushups a minute of running. felt like it was enough.

5 people in lane. I was fastest, but went second.
1. didn't have my swim watch.
2. lost track of laps.
3. followed guy who said he was faster, but was really slow. I followed him too long and only passed once he caught up to slowest swimmer and didn't pass. i was enjoying the leisurely swim, had to breathstroke a couple times. i wasn't thinking. should have swam my own race.
i ended up around 7 minutes....when i'd been doing 6 easily in training.
I'm really mad at myself for my swim.

Extra time for extra clothes due to rain. I thought I was alot worse, but not too bad considering. I even jump from one side of rack to the other a couple of times due to my unorganization.

Other than the rain and wet surface I think i had a pretty good ride. Only one lady passed me on the downhill (more mass) but I caught up on the flat. I passed a TT bike when he stopped to make an adjustment and he never caught me.
This was a good ride for me at my ability level now. I felt like I pushed myself fairly hard for not knowing my speed (garmin didn't have speed on screen, long story...)

right calf cramped up at start. never quite 100% but got through it. breathing pretty hard, but just kept pushing. legs never got warm on bike, nor run
What would you do differently?:

this was a good run for me.
Post race
Warm down:

Since it was cold and rainy, didn't really need to warm down. Just went to car to get warm clothes. Went to go watch wife finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

1. rain
2. made bad choice on swim.
3. T1

I was hoping for under an hour. I thought I totally blew it, with the rain and swim and T1. But looking at the numbers, I guess the rain might not have limited the bike that badly. My T1 wasn't as bad as I thought. The swim was a minute long. I probably would have been really close with a smarter swim and no rain.

Event comments:

No timing chips, so times are estimates (even overall time i bet is a bit off). had garmin but wasn't always exactly on time.

Course: Strong head wind on the uphill which was better than the last two years with the head wind being on the downhill. Side wind on downhill just after uphill, which made me nervous and a bit dizzy a couple of times with the added rain. They made the turn lanes a lot wider which was great!
