Swim
Comments: started up front to the outside...funny to watch everyone creeping forward as the started counted down...I'd say by the time he hit "two" some guys were already swimming! Still feel like I could have done a little better on the swim. Very confident and definitely getting better.Did a bit of drafting but I'm starting to realize that I might be getting on someone that's fading and going slower than I should be going. I gain experience with this at every race. Had a good laugh as I had about two hundred to go and found some feet and stayed on the draft. I'd say I made light contact with his feet maybe four times in that period...twice he went into huge kicks....sending me a nice message and tiring himself out. He looked back as we excited the water and I thought he might try to throw a punch at me!! There was 150 primed guys stuffed into a tiny canal and I had contact with them the whole time, but I anticipated that going in, that's just the way this race shakes out. Doesn't bother me a bit. What would you do differently?: I think I'm ready to start in the middle front or the inside front. Transition 1
Comments: Slight stickiness on the heels but not too bad. Found the bike right away and got into the shoes after hopping on the bike. What would you do differently?: Not much. Bike
Comments: Pretty good headwind on the return stretch. What would you do differently?: Pretty pleased overall. Transition 2
Comments: Fairly smooth t2. What would you do differently?: lost a couple of seconds as I ran by my spot.......all those black wetsuits look the same!! Run
Comments: Had a very enjoyable run and increased my speed the entire time. Loving the new garmin and the feedback it provides. Wanted to run the first mile around seven and I did. Dropped every mile after that and could have gone alot faster but again, saving the legs for next week. Had a great time at the finish, two hundred yards to go and this group in the crowd starts screaming "go larry"...I thought I was by myself. So Larry passes me and I tuck in behind for the draft. With about a hundred to go I decided to see what my legs had in them and passed Larry back.He responded but I threw the Millenium Falcon into hyper drive and said goodbye...15mph feels pretty good. What would you do differently?: Nada Post race
Warm down: Hugging the family, thank you team shasta ho! Had some banannas and watermelon. A few Sammies too! Headed to Mac's drive in on five near Seneca lake.....total grease fest and loved every minute. What limited your ability to perform faster: training, saving myself for marriage (next week's race) Event comments: Would love to see Jeff and the organizers break up the groups a bit more...all 30-44 men in one group, in the narrow canal? This race is successful and seems to grow every year and I hope they can cope with the growing pains. Last updated: 2010-06-03 12:00 AM

camped out with my brother Rob and our daughters in the "shasta ho'", Rob's race support RV. Rained really hard on the drive up and overnight. As we turned in for the night we were getting dripped on and looking for cups, pots and pans to put around the camper to catch the water coming in. Just had to laugh. Hot as heck in the camper as we couldn't turn the a/c on for fear of being electrocuted. Slept like....someone would sleep if they were wet, hot and sticky and about to be electrocuted. Rolled out, made coffee, had a half a bagel and drank some water. woke the girls up, broke down camp and headed out. As we made the first few turns leaving camp all the water up on the roof found new ways to pour into the interior of the camper, covering the girls....again, I just laughed, and got a towel for the girls. Started to get nice as we were driving in and the sun came out and it warmed right up. Only had to wait five minutes or so to get body marked and was able to walk right up and get my chip. It pays to be early at these events people!! Found my spot at transition and I'd have to say it was literally in the middle...maybe that's why the Swiss flag was in my row. Neutral territory.
Light jogging with Bob Stocks, some light swimming before the start.
