Swim
Comments: a fun swim, but not a perfect one. started next to stocksie and behind another club member, and I wasn't sure what his swim ability was. mass start on the beach and we all go running in...felt like david hasselhoff, without the cheesy songs and throngs of adoring German fans. The club member I was following proceeds to make a 90 degree right hand turn into the buoys...okay I think I'll take my own line now. Was actually leading for a bit until I pulled the throttle back and settled in. rounded the first buoy and started to draft a team swimmer but couldn't stay on her feet. Needed to do that to really put a good time down here. Once again I was swimming all by myself. Seems to be a common theme for me this year in all three events...I'm behind the fast fop'ers and leading the mop'ers. Oh well. What would you do differently?: Gone a bit harder after the second turn heading home. I think I finished too hard at musselman so I wanted to be a little fresher coming out for this one. I was but I think I lost a bit too much time to the lead group here. Transition 1
Comments: Pretty pleased with this....second overall by two seconds. Always little things to work on but happy with it. What would you do differently?: speed it up. Bike
Comments: Haven't been able to put the time into training that I really need to....so I'm pretty happy with this based on what I've been doing. What would you do differently?: There's a nice hill at the ten mile mark coming back that I really stunk going up....probably lost a good minute here. Needed to HTFU and take it but I sat back in the lazy boy and coasted up it. I think this is where the garmin would have been nice...just to confirm for me that I was on cruise control and needed to be about twenty bpm's higher on the h.r....not happy with myself that's for sure. Transition 2
Comments: Fastest time overall so I have to be happy with this one! Approaching dismount I thought the running chute was behind this guy who was flagging me down.....it was in front! Locked up the rear wheel and got her sideways coming in......a thrill for the spectators (got a lot of cheers for the bike handling skills!) No biggie for me though as I have been riding bikes and skid turning like that since I was four. What would you do differently?: Nada Run
Comments: Came out of the great transition and said "oh crap"....I felt LOUSY. Legs would not work right. Lots of negative thoughts and visions of everybody blowing by me. Resigned myself to the fact that I would get passed by my speedy pal Steve.....just kept running through the woods and enjoyed the shady part. Through a break in the trees I glimpsed the damn dam and said..."Sh*t, I've got to run up that thing!". Looked like it was 500 feet tall at that point. And it dawned on me that in about one minute I would be out of the shade and totally exposed for the next seventeen minutes or so. Time to HTFU. Scrambled up the dam as best I could and took two waters and dumped them over my head. Running across the top I felt I was just hanging on. Got a look at the leaders as they were coming back the other way... What would you do differently?: high fived stocksie and Larry. Started to feel a bit better around mile two...really took my time coming down the damn dam. The guys in front of me must have rolled down it uncontrollably because they gapped me really well here. Got back into the shade and tried to pick it up....saw the finishing line and thought...."I can't believe no one passed me"...kicked it up a notch with what I had left and ran it in with the kids at my side! Post race
Warm down: high fives and congrats all around to the fast guys in front of me...water and oranges. walked back up the course to find my brother coming in. Ran in with him and arrogant bastard....cow belling the whole way. Kudos to those guys! What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of focus, training, and the heat didn't help. Event comments: Got to get off my arse and get a letter out to the organizers.... 1. need a water station at the turn around on the far side of the dam 2. need to shorten the bike course to eliminate the dangerous u-turn This is my home race and the site of my first ever triathlon so I'll be coming back to this one until they put me in the ground. Congrats to all Broome County Tri club members and a big thank you to those that set up tents, brought the coolers/food etc. You guys rock! Last updated: 2010-06-03 12:00 AM

set up transition and got signed in.picked the garmin up out of my bag and discovered that the kids had been playing with it and the battery was dead....just had to laugh at that one. No biggie just went data free for this one.Rode for a couple of miles to check the bike out and get warmed up. swam around for a bit right before the start.
