Swim
Comments: Decent swim. My family had me out of the water in the top 5 of my wave. No real issues to speak about other than form starting to drop off after the final turn to the swim exit. Did not try to hammer the first 100 yards. Just built up to a nice cadence. What would you do differently?: Not too much. Just need to swim more. Transition 1
Comments: No picnics here. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Another great ride...this course is part of my regular training ride so it was nice to let it rip in familiar territory. I tried to hammer the course as much as possible and see what I had left after for the run. First couple of miles were nice but I really did not have a chance to settle my heartrate until about 4 miles in when you hit a nice downhill. After the hill I tried to stay on the gas pedal. Ended up leap frogging with a couple of guys...one of which was a fellow clydesdale. Dude was ripped. What would you do differently?: Nothing! Transition 2
Comments: No picnics here either. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Course was probably short by a few hundred yards. No way am I below a 7 minute mile for a 5k. Just tried to hold on for the run. Got passed by a few of the really fast guys but managed to hold of the rest of the big men. 35-39 winner passed me within sight of the line! DAMN!! What would you do differently?: Visit the salad bar more often. Post race
Warm down: Dumped a lot of water on my overheating head. What limited your ability to perform faster: Weight again...OA ranks tell the story. Just can't hang on the run as much as I need to to be a legit age group contender. Event comments: Very happy with this race. I ended up being 1st in the Clydesdale division and 2nd in the 35-39 group...very nice!! Will be back next year as I love seeing a race this close to home. It is a perfect venue! Up at 4:30. 1 gu and Infinit clydesdale mixture to start. Did not want to eat too much this morning as I had an upset stomach the day before. Drove to Goddard Park for the set up. Parking was easy...about 1/4 mile to T1. Check-in was quick and easy as they had a packet pick-up the day before.
Went for a 15 minute ride around the park...no real bike or run warm-up.
