Swim
Comments: after a week of debate in my head and in the bt race forum, i decided not to wear the wetsuit and was glad. it really wasn't that cold. i wore my tri shorts and an underarmor tanktop that i just kept on the entire race. swim went well. i passed the woman in front of me at 75 meters and then didn't catch the next person until slowing up to get out of the pool, so no drafting, but plenty of open water. What would you do differently?: nothing Transition 1
Comments: had to sit on curb for a few seconds to get socks/shoes on. 1:28 is not too bad, but then again it looks like it cost me 15-30 seconds on the winners of my AG. What would you do differently?: put socks/shoes on faster. Bike
Comments: went hard on bike, but i felt good. was trying for 22mph goal set by konichiwa. after the first lap i saw it was possible, but there was one decent hill that kept me off pace. pretty close though. it was going to be close, but i still had a chance of my overall goal of 1hr after the bike. ate a gu ~1/2 way through. What would you do differently?: can't go much faster than that unless i train for sprints. Transition 2
Comments: pretty good. didn't lose too much time in t2. Run
Comments: felt good, but had to push it to try to break 1hr. i just ran a fast 5k on thursday so i knew it could be done, but it wouldn't be easy. the hills were n't slowing me down much, but were making it very hard to judge what pace i was keeping. i turned what i thought was the final corner @59:50 and sprinted hard hoping to make it, but the finish line was all the way around the bulding. i should have known that, but i didn't remember where it was. ended up :24 seconds over goal, but very happy anyay. What would you do differently?: scout the finish better. Post race
Warm down: had some water and walked back to talk with friends and cheer others on. saw k finish strong. then had some food. met a guy in fron of me in the swim line on crutches. looked like he had gone through some sort of spine surgery. really nice guy. he did the entire run on crutches and finished looking strong. congratulated him after the race. he is my hero: http://www.backprint.com/view_user_photo.asp?PID=284&EVENTID=11843&... would have liked to meet up with other bt'ers, but i did the packet pickup friday and didn't have a chance to look up race numbers. hope everyone had a great race! What limited your ability to perform faster: long slower bike rides. nit used to hammering for :30+ minutes. Event comments: for a short race, this is very well done. i would like to see a longer swim, but i understand it is impossible to do that without spreading the starts out even longer. transition area was set up correctly. chip timing was perfect. course was good. it would be a great race for a first timer and a good race to start the season. it's noce to have a good local race and decent give-aways (2 water bottles, sweatshirt, product samples/coupons) for the $65 race fee too. woke up at home ~4:30. packed up car and drove with k to race. ate english muffin w/pb on the way and luna bar while there.
none. i was going to run or ride a little, but i got the transition area set up and didn't want to mess with it. so the warm up was walking around talking to people i knew and pacing around my wetsuit deciding whether to put it on or not.
