Total Time = 1h 04m 7s
Overall Rank = 2/192
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/24
Pre-race routine:

Not good. Vacation the week before. No bike work/taper. Only one good run in the week before. Ate ice cream every day while on vacation. Wedding night before. 3.5 hours of sleep. Ate breakfast (two eggs and two pieces of toast) at 4:45.
Hour drive to Lawrence.

Event warmup:

Non existant. So busy, running around like a crazy chicken. Went on .5 mile jog, no race pace pickups. Rode bike for 2 minutes to make sure it's ready. No swim warm up.
Swim
  • 07m 49s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started fast. VERY POOR SIGHTING. Started to slow down many times. Good swim time but not a good swim.
What would you do differently?:

WARM UP !!!! Slower start. Better sighting.
Transition 1
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

Good transition. Not great. Watch attachment worked great.
What would you do differently?:

Need to mentally practice more. Still top 5 SCourse transition times so I guess it was pretty good.
Bike
  • 32m 27s
  • 11.4 miles
  • 21.08 mile/hr
Comments:

Went pretty hard. Got out of saddle on first climb out of park. Tried to stay as aero as possible due to wind that came up. Drank MOST of my profile design bottle of gatorade...dumped most of water bottle on head to try to keep cool.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe a bit easier to save a bit more for the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Top 15 in T2. Ran with helmet for 10-15 yards, had to turn around and take my helmet off...cost me 20-30 seconds.
What would you do differently?:

TAKE MY HELMET OFF BEFORE I START RUNNING!!! : )
Run
  • 21m 49s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

2nd in age group beat by 1:13. Legs were a bit wobbly after hard bike. Tough to get cooled down. Felt as if I were running as hard as possible. Continued to look down at Garmin telling me 7:10ish pace the whole time but could not pick it up. Kept watching Mike run farther and farther ahead of me....Well done Mike G !!!! 6:08 pace !!! You da man !!!
What would you do differently?:

Train more for faster run!!!
Post race
Warm down:

Couldn't cool down : ) SO HOT AND HUMID!!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat
Poor diet last two weeks
Lack of sleep due to Appino's wedding
No warm up
Frazzled and flustered morning

Event comments:

can't beat it for the money....cheapest ran around....get what you pay for sometimes though....
BIKE TURN AROUND NEEDS A PHYSICAL MARKER!!!! CONE/OR A P-E-R-S-O-N !!!!
heard of multiple people running through campgrounds/missing bike turn around, not as many as last year on wrong course though(some is there fault "athletes responsibility to know route" but could be helped by the organizer)
Run turn around had a Water bucket so was same for all.
Transition area/spectators/vendors/finish line was chaos!!!! People in the way of bikers coming in. Organizer has to work with limited space though....
