Swim
Comments: Everytime I swim in open water with other poeple I always feel like I'm drowning. It is so different from all the practicing. Had a hard time with the swim to start. I kept running into another athlete. Then all the sudden he tried to kick me off him. It was funny. It took me a couple hundred meters to find my rhythm. After that the breathing and swim went well. Transition 1
Comments: My shoe fell off my bike before I was able to get on. This wasn't a good day for transitions for me. What would you do differently?: Make sure that my shoes were on the bike before trying to take off. Bike
Comments: The bike ride was fun. Most of the time I was able to maintain 23 miles per hour. We did have to get off the bike to cross the street at one point. What would you do differently?: Try not to let those 18 year olds pass me up. Transition 2
Comments: Forgot to take my helmet off. I also couldn't find the right spot to rack my bike. I was looking for my shoes and towel but they were completly covered by other peoples (and some of my own) stuff. They really need a few more bike racks for this race. I finally got to the right spot and discovered that my shoes were wet. I had put my wetsuit right on top of them. I was so frustrated that I started leaving the transistion without taking off my helmet. Terrible day for transistions. What would you do differently?: Put my wetsuit somewhere other than on top of my shoes. This would also have helped me find the right spot to rack my bike. Run
Comments: The run was harder than I thought it would be. The rocky road was difficult with my vibram five fingers. I took some time before I was able to aclimate to the rocks on the tender feet. Overall though, I was pleased with the run and my time. Post race
Event comments: First year for the race. I think that they will learn a lot this year. There wasn't even anybody around when I crossed the finish line. The time on the clock was for the first (olympic) wave and the first runners were baffled as to what they were supposed to do. But any triathlon is fun and I loved the experience. Ate some granola with craisins and a banana for breakfast.
Race Director said the sprint would start 5 minutes after the olympic wave. I didn't even have my wetsuit on so I was rushing to just get ready. The director then decided that he should stick to the schedule and gave us the full 30 minutes to warm up. I took a little jog (in my wetsuit) and then spent about 10 minutes of easy swimming.
