Swim
Comments: Lined up on second line and beside buoy to follow straight line. Had OK start and kept tagging feet of swimmer in front. Then kept head down and just went for it. All of a sudden WACK, first punch to the head. At first I thought that person came into me but looked up and that's when I notice at had gone right by maybe 10 feet. After that I struggled to keep left, goggles fogging so much I couldn't see the buoys had to clear them. Had water on one side which irritated my right contact. Finally rounded first buoy of three, field is spreading now and had more room but still struggled to stay left and fighting foggy goggles. Did I mention I swallowed water yet? Well I did, a few times. Oh ya! The cold water shrunk my fingers and almost lost my wedding ring. Anyway, finally rounded last buoy , swam hard and couldn’t wait to stand up again. It’s over! Finally! Ran 225m to transition, wetsuit came off easily. What would you do differently?: Practice sighting and perform more OWS. Purchase new goggles. Transition 1
Comments: Transition area was a mud bath. Took my time, way too much time, making sure I had everything on, helmet was first thing on, then realised had to put my shirt on. My BIB ripped, had to re-pin. Took time to wipe my feet, get mud off put socks on then bike shoes. Ran to mounting area. FORGOT MY SUN GLASSES. OK, here's a question how in the heck did the top people do it in less then a minute? It's probably a good 20 seconds from swim entrance to bike exit in the transition area, without stopping for your bike. TOP person did it 41 seconds. What would you do differently?: Purchase tri suit, BIB belt. LOTS of practice and practice and practice. If I shaved 2 minutes 10 seconds off here I'm top 3. Biggest time waster: putting on my HRM and watch. Bike
Comments: Here I felt very comfortable off the start, if it wasn't for small lane getting out of park I would have passed right away but waited patiently. Once on the road I kicked in gear and pushed, passing a few people. But, then it hit, went too hard to fast (rooky mistake). So I went ot lower gear to recharge. Also, I had my swimming short on which might of been to tight around the thighs, that may have caused my quads to fill up with too much blood causing the mobility (my excuse anyway). Once my legs relaxed a little I turned it up again but not too much. Oh! my tire pressuse was only at 80psi which also I'm sure didn't help with my speed, wasting more energy to get to same speed. Mounting off the bike was no problem. What would you do differently?: Need more training, practice mounting with shoes clipped in. Practice without socks. Build endurance and strenght. Oh! and don't be shy to borrow someones' pump to get tires to proper presure so I could go faster and be in top 3. I still can't believe I had a chance to be top 3. Transition 2
Comments: Off the bike pretty good and into my runners fast. Didn't waste much time here. But if shaved some more time here and I'm top 2. What would you do differently?: Get those laces so you don't need to tie shoes. Run
Comments: Well, I took my time so I don't burn out and don't fall on slippery wet grass. One muddy spot girl in front of me lossed her shoe. I kept my pace throughout. I got compliant with my pace... Big mistake... If I went with my original plan to go 5min per KM pace I could have shaved off another 100 seconds easily. I had plenty in the tank cause at finnish I sprinted for at least 50m so guy behind me didn't pass. What would you do differently?: It's a race give it all I got, find my killer instincts that I have in every other sports. Would have finnished top 2. Would of, could of, should of.............stop crying and start training!!! I have the ability to be winner in my AG. BELIEVE! Post race
Warm down: No warm down, just pickup my gear and packed it in. Changed into dry clothes get a bite to eat. What limited your ability to perform faster: Inconsistant training, no practice of transition, mental edge and not knowing I had a chance to WIN. Event comments: Hard to judge this was my first time attending a Tri event. Last updated: 2010-06-06 12:00 AM

Up at 4:30am, thinking maybe I am crazy like my wife said. Have long drive so need to get moving, had breakfast made coffee for the road. Moved everything to the garage, everything is very quiet. I opened the garage door and the birds were chirping away with no other sounds, that's when I knew I'm not crazy. Packed the van and hit the road at 5am. Arrived at park 6:40, much faster then expected, great! got prime parking spot and first choice in transition area. My race is only at 10am, registration is only at 8:45am. The sprint is at 9:05. So I walked around the park, admiring all the various bikes and gear, getting familiar with Entrance/Exits from transition area. By this time my shoes/feet were very wet, it's been raining for last three days. Standing water everywhere in transition area which turned pretty muddy after the sprint. I walked the full 2.5K of my run, it's a trail run, getting familiar with all the muddy areas and finding best path. 9am, went to beach get ready to watch the sprint racers start. After last wave went to transition area to watch everything unfold there (learning by other people's mistakes). Time to register, setup transition and put wetsuit on.
Because my event started after the Sprint race I didn't do any warm up for bike or run although I did walk the 2.5k at 7am. Swam for about 250m and had hard time getting comfortable, could not get a rythm for breathing. Tried to practice sighting.
