Swim
Comments: Put in my seed time as 1:35 and finished with a 1:38 pace so I seeded myself correctly. I pushed slightly harder than usual just to see if it affected the rest of my race. Passed about 10-20 people and had none pass me. It quickly became very clear that people seeded themselves terribly as someone in the top 20 walked the entire course... My bib was 252 (started at 100) so I was seeded as essentially the 152nd seeded swimmer and ended up 32nd...major problems with the seeding, but having the whole lane to pass was great and I only had a couple instances where I had too many people in my way to navigate around. All in all, happy with the swim, pushed a tiny bit too hard, just too many people lying about their times... What would you do differently?: I guess I needed to seed myself as like a 1:10 per 100 or something because putting in a proper pace was a bad idea... Transition 1
Comments: Got out of the pool, ran to the bike, put my stuff on, grab bike, go. Bike
Comments: Drove the bike course and noticed the couple smaller hills. They were a little harded on the bike and overall the course was much harder than I anticipated. I had some trouble on the hills (my legs and stomach just felt weak) so I really tried to push the downhills to make up for it. I was really tired by the last lap and my stomach was feeling queezy so I'm not sure if it was sickness, too much fluid, pushing too hard early, something I ate sometime, etc. but it wasn't my best performance. Only passed by a couple dudes (I was expecting more) but my time was about what I expected (slower than I wanted before the race but faster than it felt during the race). Atleast I beat my wife's time! What would you do differently?: Water down gatorade more? Not sure what the problem was but stomach felt bad. Transition 2
Comments: In and out. Legs and such felt pretty weak. Felt like I was moving in slow motion to the rack. About the same as my T1 so that was good. My T1 times were pretty solid in the results. Run
Comments: Ouch! My worst run to date... Didn't feel well off the bike and the beginning of the run was straight down hill. All the bouncing down the hill killed me and had to throw up quick in the woods... Oh well, keep moving. Didn't get my legs until about the half way point and decided just to pace it like a longer race and not walk (IM 70.3 RI coming up). Felt a bit better with less than a mile to go but didn't leave myself any time to make up for it. What would you do differently?: Figure out what happened to my stomach. I've never had this problem before so not sure what happened. Post race
Warm down: Get two cups of water and go back to the finish line to watch the wifey finish (though she might catch me but didn't happen). Once she finished got some pizza, soda, water, etc. and try to find the results. What limited your ability to perform faster: Stomach and legs. My heart rate felt sky high but my muscles weren't tired at the end...guess I need to train more or something as my HR was my limiter. Event comments: Not my best race but my age group had almost nobody in it, so I won my age group! This doesn't happen often to me (only second time) and I've won my age group as often as I've placed in my age group...in fact I've never gotten 2nd or 3rd. I almost always just miss out on the awards so it was nice to bring home some hardware myself as my wife seems to always win her age group. Very cool, but definitely not my best race. Would do it again and would make for a great revenge race next year as my run split was off about 4 minutes from my last race. Either way, Success! The race was very well run and I would definitely recommend it to others. Great race to do your first triathlon but also had some very fast locals. Last updated: 2010-06-06 12:00 AM

Woke up around 4:45 left the house at 5:15 and had a powerbar and bottle of gatorade. Didn't feel great.
Ran to the car when the wifey forgot her helmet. Stretched a little before the swim. I don't really warm up.
