Pre-race routine:

Had dinner at Mike and Julie's THANKS it was great!
Up at 5:10am. Putts around and ate banana, and toast. Drank some gatorade. Loaded back and rode bike down to race. Got body marked and chip. Set up mid transition area. next to rstock3. Drank water and had some gel. Met up with other BTers. Got to meet Jackjack and Mary Edgers.
Called Chad to see if he was up. He was. Number of athletes waiting to see if they could get a spot. Went and said good moring to Nancy A an Lou, both kayaking.
Event warmup:

Took a little jog with Chad. Got in water and did couple 100 yds.
Swim
  • 15m 22s
  • 792 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

Once again we had a number of people who couldn't follow directions. We got in the water to warmup and then back out. Counted in then called back out of the water to be counted again. A number of people cut the counting so we had to be counted again.

Started to the left close to the front. Fairly good positioning. Drafted a little for 50 yds or so. Then got all by myself. Swam alone for most of it. My breathing was good BLB till the last leg. Then stated to suck air every stroke. Sited well although a little wide at end. Swam right up till I was touching bottom. Little bit of a run to T1. I did a pretty good job running on the gravel/asphalt path. Undid wetsuit top.
What would you do differently?:

More long distance training.
Transition 1
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

Did better then last few tris. Got ankle foot stuck in suit as I caught the chip strap. Sat to put socks and and shoes on. Wheel also got stuck in the rack. You had to pull it straight out.
What would you do differently?:

Remember the chip is on ankle. NO GLOVES. Need a bucket to sit on.
Bike
  • 44m 6s

  • 17.69 mile/hr
Comments:

It felt good. Pushed out of transition well. then settle down to rest before hill. I have done this course a number of times this year. Stuck a little half way up but cleaned up cadance and rolled up hill well.
Got passed by less people then last year. Most were the whosh wosh of disc wheels. Lots of encouragement on the way.
I really enoyed turning the corner to head back downhill. I waited for Mary Edgar to pass me on the hill. It took her longer to get to me. On the hill at the college she got me. She won the female sprint. I really dislike that college loop. It has speed bumps so you stick on the hill after slowing for them. Mary said she didn't like it either. Pushed to the end. No accident this year. Pushed right to the dismount.
What would you do differently?:

Lose more weight. Still got some work to do before I start thinking about a nes bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

214 in overall WTF, what was I doing having coffee or what. Need to work hard on T2. Went well changed shirt. Remembered hat and still trying to figure out if I like the Yank shoe laces.
What would you do differently?:

Sit right away.
Run
  • 28m 32s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Had a good run. I enjoyed the lagoon run the gravel was softer on legs. I ran well. Had to mentally keep focusing. I got a little depressed when 4 of my AGers passed me within 500yds. Oh well I know I'm kicking my last years time. Passed Chad on the pier going the other way. Gave me a little push to pick it up. Did get passed by a dozen racers or so. I had a back ache and shin splints.
What would you do differently?:

More running time. I need some coaching.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank 3 bottles of water and walked a little hung out with Bob since he finished 20 minutes ahead of me. Met up with Willie. Yoshi came back from out on the Oly course. She was boasting about her Harley ride.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Extra pounds I put on lately. Too much time on T1.

Event comments:

This was a great race for me. Yoshi and Will were there. Got to hang with many BTers. The run course is much improved from last year. Felt it was well organized. I can't believe my buddy from swimming did a Oly. I so wanted to race him again this year. I beat Chad by 24 seconds I hope he doesn't mind. We both moved up in the overall ranking and AG's. Having support and friendship of the Bt crowd is wonderful. Thanks to all the volunteer.
