Overall Rank = 65/83
Age Group = 22-45
Age Group Rank = 20/23
Pre-race routine:

Got there about an hour early and set up. Nothing too exciting.
Event warmup:

A quick jog and about 50 yards of swimming to acclimate myself to the water
Swim
  • 12m 10s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

Overall, not a bad swim. I swam a bit extra because I thought there was another bouy to round. Turns out, it was time to swim to shore.

Turned right a little, but not too bad this time. Seems like slowing down the stroke helped a lot.
What would you do differently?:

Train more. Only one OWS before today this year.
Transition 1
  • 02m 44s
Comments:

had a lot of trouble clipping in. May have had some dirt in my cleats from the transition.
Bike
  • 1h 22m 32s
  • 16 miles
  • 11.63 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Nothing on race day. I went as hard as I had to. There really wasn't an option to slack on this one.
Transition 2
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

So I get back to the transition area and I don't see any bikes. For a second, I thought I wasn't so far back. That's when I realized all the bikes had fallen down.
What would you do differently?:

This was a good transition. I forgot to take my feet out of the shoes and couldn't jump off with them off.
Run
  • 43m 26s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 14m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Took a wrong turn when the volunteer sent me the wrong way. Guess he didn't know I was on my first lap.

Alternated between running (very slowly) and hobbling around on cramped quads.
What would you do differently?:

Try to know the course better. Sometimes the volunteers make mistakes, too.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around. Went through the mist tent.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training.

Event comments:

This was the first year, but they need to do some things differently next year. The bike rack in transition just won't do. A rope just doesn't cut it.

A lot of people got lost on the bike and run courses. And the bike course had some part that just weren't any good. Not the hills, the road.

Wind: Little
Course: Rolling hills with a few biggins thrown in. This was a tough course and had to walk twice. There were almost no flats to get into a rhythm. There were a few really bad parts of the course. Most notably was the downhill with a bunch of potholes that jarred my handlebars out of position.
