Swim
Comments: The most difficult part of the race for me. It was my first tri and first OWS with a crowd. I swam pretty straight so that helped. What would you do differently?: Relax more. I'm definately gonna start working on my swim. Transition 1
Comments: I felt pretty good here. I passed my brother and cousin in the transition and they both had faster swims. What would you do differently?: Nothing, just try to do everything a little quicker. Bike
Comments: Bike went ok. Heard "on the left" about 2 miles in and turned to see my grinning brother passing me... I stayed about 15-20 seconds behind until about mile 7 when I dropped my chain while shifting and hitting a hole at the same time. I didn't have to stop but I slowed to about 5mph while I was trying to pedal it back on. What would you do differently?: Ride a little more agressively on the hills, I think I held back a little bit. Transition 2
Comments: I've been practicing getting out of my shoes while riding and that went well. However my rack spot was at the other end of transition and I had a long barefoot run to the rack. My shoes kept hitting the ground too. When I got to my rack I racked the bike, slipped my shoes on and I was off. What would you do differently?: I would run in my bike shoes if I had a far away rack. If I am closer I would take shoes off on the bike again. Run
Comments: I was a little disappointed in my run. I was hoping to run about a 7:15 pace. It took me a little while to get settled in. I passed a ton of people though and that's always fun. Saw my brother after he made the turn and knew I couldn't catch him. What would you do differently?: I need to do more bricks. I only did 2 leading up to the race. I expect to get a lot faster in the run. Post race
Warm down: Just your typical walking back and forth for 5 minutes. What limited your ability to perform faster: I wasn't ready for the swim and I didn't know how much I really had in me for the run. I think I could have hit my goal pace in the run, but I need to do more bricks so I'm mentally sure what I can do. Event comments: Very fun for my first race. I signed up with my cousin and brother and it was the first race for all of us. We train together and my brother beat me by 42 secs. My cousin finished 46 secs after me. We're all signed up for Anchor Bay, so that should be a good rematch! Last updated: 2010-06-07 12:00 AM

Got up at the race hotel at 5:45, ate a clif bar and started packing up the car. 6:45 got into an argument with my brother over who lost the keys. 7:00 my brother finds the keys (where HE left them) and we're off to the race site.
Walking from the off-site parking and pacing nervously before the swim.
