Overall Rank = 45/425
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 7/35
Pre-race routine:

Wake up, eat, drive to course with wife. She did the run leg on a relay team.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 16m 19s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

Brrr the water was cold! Northern wind + cool morning temps did not help either. Great swim for me. Couldn't have done it much better.
What would you do differently?:

Wetsuit might have been nice, but the time I'd gain on the swim I'd lose in T1 b/c I don't practice wetsuit stripping. Will work on that next year.
Transition 1
  • 02m 35s
Comments:

As always my shirt got hung up a bit. Socks/shoes on quickly. Long run up stairs is a killer though.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to cycle and run w/ no socks.
Bike
  • 49m 25s
  • 16.5 miles
  • 20.03 mile/hr
Comments:

Gave it a great effort. The headwind was tough on the way out and up Norell. It made the short climbs a bit more difficult. Tried not to completely smoke my legs for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Gave it a great effort, so nothing. Overall times were slower for everybody, so apparently the wind was only blowing on me.
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

Doesn't get much faster than this for me. Shoes on, hat on, run.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 36m 9s
  • 5 miles
  • 07m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Took 1.5 miles for my legs to stop burning after the first climbs. Then I settled into a good pace. I wanted to do 35, but I'm very happy with this time.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks I suppose?

Event comments:

I did this race for the first time 4 years ago (2006) as my first triathlon. It took me 2:25:50. I rode a mountain bike that year. It's great to gauge how far I've come and how much triathlon changed my life (quit smoking, lost loads of weight, etc) This race will always hold a place in calendar. Next year, podium?
