Swim
Comments: I swam much better than expected, having just recently figured out the whole breathing thing. My age group was the last wave, so it felt good to pass lots of swimmers from earlier waves. What would you do differently?: Get better at swimming... Transition 1
Comments: Not bad for my first tri. I didn't rush too much, so have lots of room to improve. What would you do differently?: Move faster... Bike
Comments: I tried to push it hard, but leave enough in the tank for the run. Probably could have pushed a bit more, but am happy with the bike overall. It helped to ride the course a week ago. Transition 2
Comments: Felt much faster than 1.5 minutes. Not sure what was so slow. Run
Comments: The hill on mile 1 was a killer. My Garmin 305 wasn't picking up my heart rate, despite a new battery, but I'm sure my HR was maxed. Tons of much thinner people were walking, so it feels good to know I ran the whole thing. According to the AutoCalc, I ran at a sub-10-minute-mile pace. I couldn't be happier with that, as I normally train at about 11-12 minute miles, and honestly don't run much to avoid shin issues. What would you do differently?: Train more for the run and keep improving. Post race
Warm down: Walked around with my wife and kids, stretched a little, more water, printed my results, went home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Body weight. I'm down below 200, but need to drop about 30-40 pounds. The sky's the limit as I become more efficient! Event comments: Couldn't be happier after my first tri. Need to sign up for Maple Grove. Up at 5:00, green smoothie and coffee for breakfast. Got to event at 6:30 and was surprised to find the bike racks nearly full. Need to arrive earlier at next event.
walked around for a while, waiting for pre-race meeting.
Scrambled to get my wetsuit on when they told us to hurry and get out of the transition area...
Light stretching and quick swim to get wet.
