Swim
Comments: Not sure what happened, but I couldn't reproduce what I was doing in my warmup. I felt really smooth and breathing was great. Not so once the horn went off. Overall, this was a pretty good swim. I looked at my watch coming out and I actually swam it in 18 and some change. What would you do differently?: I let the girl sharing the lane with me go first. turned out to be not a great idea. I wanted to pass her, but every chance I got, the evens were swimming right at me. Not sure I would insist on going first, but maybe put a little more speed on and try the pass next time. Transition 1
Comments: Transition time was lumped into the swim. Great transition, though. Got my socks on with the first try and ran out pretty well. Remembered my powergel this time. Bike
Comments: Parts of the road were rough and you had to avoid them. My cornering got better with each lap. Since I was able to take the turn at the bottom of a hill faster each time, I carried more speed up that hill which made for a better time. Got pretty bad quadriceps cramps on the first couple miles. I think I need more swim-bike bricks. What would you do differently?: spin a little longer to get the legs into it. Ramp up the effort a little slower. Spin a little bit towards the end. Transition 2
Comments: Again, T2 was lumped in with the bike. Bummer. I really wanted to see how I did. What would you do differently?: This was a great transition. Shoes were opened perfectly. Run
Comments: Here's where I blew up. Had to walk up the hills. 3 miles of misery. I know this is due to a lack of training. What would you do differently?: Train more. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a lot. Stretched a little. Ate some oranges, bananas and some gatorade. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. Event comments: Started a bit late...8 minutes I think. That seems pretty good. Course was well marked, especially the run. Would have liked to see a transition area diagram in the email they sent out. Also, a quick review of USAT rule regarding bike positioning would have been nice. I had to weave around a lot of people. It's really bad when you say "on your left" and they swerve to the left because they think I'm asking them to move left. Otherwise, this was a really fun race. Lots of friendly people.
