Pre-race routine:

Got up early, stretched and ate.
Swim
  • 08m 43s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

I probably didn't eat enough and/or too early. I couldn't get into a cadence breathing but my time was about as good as I could expect. As soon as I stood up I was hungry and a little drained. I had to walk/slowly jog to transistion which was 100+ yards away. Lost a minute or two their
What would you do differently?:

I would try and get into a better rhythm. Expended a little more energy then I should have and didn't really gain any time for the extra effort. But it was a great first open water swim in my first triathlon.
Transition 1
  • 03m 40s
Comments:

Didn't rush transistion. Took my time and made sure I was ready to get on the road.
What would you do differently?:

I would speed things up and not drop/lose my googles on the way to transistion.Probably fuel up a little while getting out on the road
Bike
  • 36m 25s
  • 10 miles
  • 16.48 mile/hr
Comments:

A little wind on the way out and getting stuck behind a car for a little slowed things down but still averaged about what I thought I would. Overall I was happy with the swim and bike.
What would you do differently?:

Next time I will fuel up on the ride. I had a bottle of gatorade which I accidently dropped two miles into the ride. I really needed that for the run. I made the decision to leave it. I have two cup holders should have had a back up bottle.
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Easy transistion, rode with my running shoes so really just dropping the bike off and putting on the race number.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 35m 4s
  • 3 miles
  • 11m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Got about 1.5 miles in and bonked out. Lack of fuel really came back to bite me. Felt great but ran out of gas. The tank was empty. Needed to mix in some walking the rest of the way. Learned some valuable lessons.
What would you do differently?:

I needed to better hydrate and refuel. I felt good all day until the run and just couldn't push myself. Lost about 6-8 minutes on the run because of mistakes.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was overall extremely happy. I told myself anywhere between 1:15-1:30 for my first time would be great. The only issue was I could have easily gotten closer to the 1:15 if I had just made some minor adjustments to my breakfast and race fueling. It was a great experience and next time I will be ready.

Event comments:

This was a great race for my first triathlon.Great course and well organized
