Pre-race routine:

Went to a party at the DAC the night before the race. Got to bed about 1:00 am and up at 6:00 am to race.

Comments:

My overall swim was very good!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

They have 2 separate transitions for this race. T1 was just outside the beach. You had to set-up T2 first then ride your bike, wetsuit and all swim and T1 gear about a mile down the road to the T1. This is a minor inconvenience and I would prefer not to do it this way, but we all live with it in this race!
Bike
  • 00m
  • 12.43 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

6 mile loop. 2 1/2 lanes are closed for bikers only. There is one lane open on the outside for cars, but on Sunday Morning on Belle Isle, there is very little car activity!

I did find the slower riders did not stay on the right and many people were passing on the left and right. This did cause some confusion at times, but not too bad.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Nothing special
Run
  • 00m
  • 3.4 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

I was so bad out of run shape it was sickening. Because of my knee, I did not run much the last 4 weeks and it surely showed. I walked 2 or 3 times about 25 - 30 yards.
Post race
Event comments:

Even with the drawbacks, I would do this race again.

Performance:
Suit: Sleeveless
Course: Triangle course. Water was so shallow that you could walk over 1/3 of race. This caused a lot of problems as many people did just that! Our wave was very crowded with lots of walkers.

Course: Course is truly flat, smooth and fast. I am about an average biker and I can not tell you how many people "blew" by me! I passed several, but 2 - 3 time that many people passed me! I can not imagine a faster bike course (unless of course you rode downhill the entire way!).

Performance: Below average
Course: About 1/2 road and 1/2 "paved" trail. The road part was smooth, wide open and no problems. The trail run was terrible! The paved path is narrow and broken down in many spots. Lots of holes, cracks, weeds growing. There was not a lot of room to pass (or be passed!) especially the 1/4 mile or so where runners going out and in were passing each other.
