Pre-race routine:

Nothing special for the race. Wasn't able to really eat, which is consistent before most races. I did eat a banana shortly before we went out for the swim, and that may have been part of my undoing.
Swim
  • 15m 50s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 07s / 100 meters
Comments:

Decent swim, really caught the wave before us, but that was because they must have had a lot of first timers and weaker swimmers. I'm purely BOP/MOP when it comes to the swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

Transition was fine but I felt like I was starting to stitch on the run up from the water to the transition area = eating banana too close. This would haunt me later.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really.
Bike
  • 36m 50s
  • 19 kms
  • 30.95 km/hr
Comments:

The bike was the beginning of this disaster. I started to ride, looked down at the PM and couldn't figure out where my power was. I had nothing from the get go. At the end of the ride I had averaged 173 watts for the course with my HR in the 170's the whole way. I'd ridden it a week earlier and avg watts were 213. Plus the stitch further developed during the ride and I thought this would impact the run.
What would you do differently?:

Don't know - there was just no power in the legs.
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

This is where I knew the run was going to be awful. I took just a few steps off the bike and my gut and side were in agony form the stitch. All I wanted to do was get out of transition and around the corner from the crowds to hide the pain on my face.
Run
  • 27m 14s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 27s  min/km
Comments:

The run is my strength, so when you walk 1/2 the course and hobble along the other 1/2 you know your day is done. My stomach and side wouldn't settle down and I just shuffled along, except for when I walked. By km 4 I started to actually run a bit, but it felt awful. I just wanted the race to end, and was very happy when it did.
What would you do differently?:

Don't eat the friggin banana before the start of the race!!!
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing to warm down.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Everything. I sound whiny, and maybe I am, but I always seem to manage a disaster of a race each year, and hopefully I got this one out of the way and rest will be better.

Event comments:

I like the course and the event, I just didn't have a good day. I'll have to decide if I race this one next year for redemption or do the Olympic.
