Swim
Comments: Actually, a pretty good swim. There was a little breeze that made the water choppier than a pool, so I got more water in my mouth than usual. Hitting that first buoy against the current is tough! Several people were inside the buoys going downstream... Transition 1
Comments: First place T1 in my age group!!! :) Jogged almost the entire was to my rack while taking stripping the top of my wetsuit. Walked the last couple yards, then off with the wetsuit, on with the helmet and glasses, and ran out. What would you do differently?: Not much to improve on here! Bike
Comments: Triathlon is my excuse to enter a bike race. We seemed to be going into the wind for the first 15 miles, and then had the tailwind for the last 10. I pushed it pretty hard and tried to stay as small as possible - only 2 people passed me! My left hip flexor cramped a little and I had to stretch/massage it a little, then later my right hand actually cramped. I must have been squeezing the aerobars - made a conscious effort to keep my grip light after that. Broke 40 mph on two of the hills coming back - only had to "granny" one of the uphills, the one after hitting 40 on the way down. What would you do differently?: An aero helmet might have gotten me the 24 seconds I needed to place first in my age group here. Transition 2
Comments: I'm a slow T2'er. Before I headed out, I decided to take a couple salt tablets since I cramped a little during the ride. What would you do differently?: Learn to run barefoot? Run
Comments: The official results were kind enough to show "-----" for my time! I knew I would be slow since I strained my calf two weeks ago and hadn't run since, however, I was hoping I'd be closer to 9:30's instead of 10:00's. My calf felt ok until about .5 miles to go, when I felt a little twinge! :( What would you do differently?: I need to spend a lot more time running to improve here - I can apparently "get away" with only riding 2-3 times per week, but not running. Post race
Warm down: Iced my calf. What limited your ability to perform faster: My calves. Event comments: I was disappointed that they didn't have crab cakes this year, and they also ran out of pizza, so I was starving by the time I got home. Last updated: 2010-06-11 12:00 AM

Arrived 5 minutes after the transition area opened and grabbed the aisle spot of my rack - 2 hours 'til race time. The sky was a little cloudy and it had rained some on the drive over, but all was dry at Naylor's Beach.
About a mile jog and then donned the wetsuit and splashed around in the water for about 10 minutes.
