Pat Griskus Triathlon Series
95F / 35C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 17m 27s
Overall Rank = 81/435
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 14/31
Pre-race routine:

Left work about 4pm and drove like a maniac to get to the site. Changed in my truck when I got there - sweating like crazy already due to oppressive heat. Registered and set up area - lousy racks and a bit chaotic (no assigned spaces), but more room on the ground than usual, so I wasn't squeezed. Drank some G2. Too many spectators wandering around in Transition and near the race start.
Event warmup:

Swam a little.
Swim
  • 17m 13s
  • 805 meters
  • 02m 08s / 100 meters
Comments:

Got a little off course a couple of times avoiding the crowd, but felt strong the whole swim.
What would you do differently?:

Improve siting and stay on course.
Transition 1
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

Average - fumbled with socks and shoes as usual.
What would you do differently?:

Still need to figure out the technique to put shoes on bike, go barefoot and jump on bike. Maybe when I go pro.
Bike
  • 33m 39s
  • 10.5 miles
  • 18.72 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good and went as fast as I could the whole way - pleased with my bike performance. Pissed that my bike computer wasnt working, but got over it.
What would you do differently?:

Check bike computer before race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

OK, but nothing special - took an extra few seconds to have a drink.
What would you do differently?:

Practice.
Run
  • 23m 38s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good on the run - got stronger as it progressed. Finished very strong on the final hill and sprinted to finish.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - felt good.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water and tried to avoid the crowds. Too many spectators in the middle of the finish area. Went back up to transition and packed up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat was definitely a factor, but not as much as I thought. Overall, felt good and went as fast as I could.

Event comments:

Good race. Wish they could have kept the spectators away from the race areas before and after. Great volunteers and cheering along the course, especially given the heat. Didn't stay for post race stuff - too many people and too hot.
