![]() Swim
Comments: I should have completed this swim much faster. I was comfortable the entire swim, but I never really pushed the pace. I also started on the inside which had much less current. I wore a new wetsuit that I haven't worn before, and it chaffed my neck. Nothing new on race day! What would you do differently?: Start as close to the middle of the river as possible. Stay in the current. Push the pace a little. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Not sure what happened in T1. I felt like this trabsition was much quicker than it actually was. What would you do differently?: run faster thru transition area. ![]() Bike
Comments: The rain was really coming down during the bike. This made the turns and cornering a little sketchy. I saw one guy wipe out. My plan was to go easy for the first 10 miles or so, but I felt really good so I pushed the pace a little. At the 1 hour mark I was over 20 miles in. I kept telling myself to slow down, so I would have something left for the run. I passed alot of people. At 30 miles, I was still carrying over a 20mph average. Again, I told myself to slow down. At mile 40, I was over 21 mph average and I felt great, so I decided to just push it the rest of the ride. Finished a lot faster than I expected, and I'm happy with my time, but I'm a little disappointed that I held back so much. What would you do differently?: Ride as fast as I want! ![]() Transition 2
Comments: I thought this transition was the slow one. I had to dry my feet before I could get my socks on, and I also made a pit stop at the port-a-john. What would you do differently?: not much. ![]() Run
Comments: I lived off the course on the run. Mostly gatorade and water. Had 2 powergels. I prefer GU. Felt really good on the run until mile 9. My 10k split was around 54 minutes, which is fast for me. Slowed considerably the last couple of miles, but still finished right on my gaol pace. I'm happy I was able to run this well off the bike effort I put in. What would you do differently?: nothing. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Had a couple of slices of pizza and a cold beer at the finish line. It was great! Walked around a littlee then headed to transition to get my bike. What limited your ability to perform faster: Gotta get faster on the swim and in transition. Event comments: I've read some folks reports who had some bad experiences with this race, such as long lines, and I heard the ran out of finisher medals. I had no issues, and really enjoyed the event. Last updated: 2010-06-13 12:00 AM

For once I actually slept really well the night before this race. That really helps. I felt great on race morning. Had coffee and a banana at the hotel, then headed to transition around 6:00. It started raining as soon as I arrived at my bike rack, and that was the theme of the majority of the day. Set up transition area, then grabbed my wetsuit and headed for the shuttle to swim start. The line was long for for the shuttle so my buddy and I decided to walk to swim start. Had a cliff bar on the walk.
Just the 1.5 mile walk to swim start. Stretched a little.
