Swim
Comments: Swim went well - the distance felt accurate unlike last year where it was way long. While I did swim much better this year, I didn't swim 6 minutes faster, as the times would indicate! This was one of the most comfortable swims I have had - there was very little traffic and I only bumped other swimmers a couple times. I was only 10 seconds off the fastest swim in my age group, so I am very satisfied with the swim. What would you do differently?: I still don't draft off other swimmers like the best swimmers do. Instead I just try to avoid others. Transition 1
Comments: No complaints here, I was guarding my hamstring all day, trying not to aggravate it further, so there was no need in trying to save a few seconds in T1. I had a little trouble getting my tri top on - the back of it always gets stuck on my shoulders, but I think that is the peril of putting on a tri top when wet. I also failed badly rolling on one of my socks (upside down), but that only cost me a couple seconds to pull it off and fix it. I was also very carfeul throwing my leg over the big because of the hammy. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I think I could cut this down to 1:30 or so if I was miving faster. Bike
Comments: This was a pretty good bike for me. I shaved 0:24 off of last year's time, so I am happy so long as I continue to get a little faster. What would you do differently?: Nothing - I could have pushed a little harder, but was nervous about the run. Transition 2
Comments: T2 was slower for me this year than last, when I finished in just under a minute. I was thinking about the upcoming run though instead of concentrating on moving quickly. What would you do differently?: Nothing - I know I can get a quick T2 time when healthy. Run
Comments: Started out really slow and while I knew that was the smart thing to do (Peachtree is coming up!), it was difficult to watch people running past me when I knew that I could outrun almost all of them. My hamstring felt tight and hurt for the first 2 miles. I was carfeul though to keep my stride under control so I wouldn't stretch it further. For the last mile, it seemed to loosen up some, but I still controlled my speed well below what is normally a comfortable pace for me. One of the volunteers accidentally blocked me from getting water on the way out, but luckily the stand was well before the turnaround so I was able to grab a cup on the way back in. Placing the water stand before the turnaround is one of the smartest things this race does that so many other do not do. By the run the weather was already stifling hot. What would you do differently?: Other than doing a better job grabbing a cup on the way out - nothing. Post race
Warm down: a little stretching, but again being careful of the hammy. I hung out and talked with a bunch of other competitors while waiting for the olympic distance folks to clear T2 so we could get our gear. I like that they quickly post the unofficial resaults at the race. What limited your ability to perform faster: hamstring pull. Event comments: I plan to be back next year and try the olympic distance. I really like this race overall. Last updated: 2010-06-14 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4am, ate an English muffin with peanut butter and drove from Atlanta to West Point, sipping some G2 along the way.
None - set up transition and then waited in a long line to use the porta-potty to reward my hydration efforts.
I tweaked my left hamstring Thursday afternoon, so I didn't stretch much, just hoping that the bike would loosen it up enough to run...or at least walk/jog/stubmle through the run.
