Total Time = 1h 31m 34s
Overall Rank = 140/751
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 16/51
Pre-race routine:

woke up 30 min late rushed through breakfast then got bag that was prechecked the night before and headed out
Event warmup:

Biked about 2 miles just spinning. Swam about 10 minutes 30 minutes before wave start
Swim
  • 14m 31s
  • 704 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

I went out way to hard this being my first race. I had trouble getting my breath and had to really slow down and side stroke for 30 seconds to calm down. Then I settled into a slower pace and was able to maintain a decent speed and cadence for the rest of the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Bring Tinted goggles. Sighting was very hard for the early part of the race. Also go out a little closer to my pace so as to not panic and have to almost stop to calm down
Transition 1
  • 02m 32s
Comments:

Fairly good transition considering how long the run was from the beach to the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to keep shoes on bike and put shoes on during the ride.
Bike
  • 43m 47s
  • 15 miles
  • 20.56 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike went extremely well for me. My legs felt great and was able to maintain 20 mph average on a fairly tough course. there was a couple 180 degree turn and a lot of very sharp narrow corners.
What would you do differently?:

Back off a little on last mile and get my cadence in line with running. I really struggled with that transition.
Transition 2
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

I felt like this was a fairly good T2 Considering its my first race
What would you do differently?:

run faster with bike to rack and from rack to exit.
Run
  • 28m 44s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

I really struggled with running off the bike for the first mile. I thought i practiced this enough but I think I was not prepared for intensity of the bike then running.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more intense bike/run bricks to see what I am capable of.
Post race
Warm down:

cold towel and some cold water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not enough practice, first race jitters, not enough sleep the night before.

Event comments:

Was an excellent choice for a first timers race! Kind of expensive but they do provide a lot and make the event very fun and organized! I had a blast
