Pre-race routine:

I got my stuff ready and ate a few cliff bars.
Event warmup:

I made sure all my stuff was in order and stretched.
Swim
  • 10m 8s
  • 450 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

I made the mistake of starting to the far left of the bouy and in the back. This was my first triathlon and I followed the advice of the announcer calling the waves of athletes into the water. I had to swim a good distance to round the first bouy. If I started on the inside, I would have easily saved a minute or two. I also should have started in the middle instead of the back. I had a hard time passing swimmers. I timed myself before the event in OW and I averaged 6:45 mins.
What would you do differently?:

I would start in the middle or front and close to the bouy.
Transition 1
  • 05m
Comments:

I never practiced the T1.....big mistake. I fiddled with getting my watch off over my suit and had trouble getting my suit off. I also had trouble putting my watch back on.
What would you do differently?:

I would just wear regular tri watch underneath the suit. I spend too much time trying to get my Garmin on and taking off my HR watch off....too many watches. I also will practice the T1.
Bike
  • 35m 27s
  • 10 miles
  • 16.92 mile/hr
Comments:

I didn't push as hard as I can. I forgot I was in a race.
What would you do differently?:

Push it hard.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

I ran out with my helmet on. The water station let me know that I had my helmet before I left the T2. This was pretty funny. I had to run back to put my helmet back.
What would you do differently?:

Take helmet off after racking my bike. :)
Run
  • 26m 7s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 07m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

I had a lot of energy at the end of the race. I could have ran faster.
What would you do differently?:

Push it harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was lacking sleep. I am excited to do a race closer to home so I can get the proper sleep the nights before the race.

Event comments:

I had a good time and enjoyed the race. This was my first triathlon so I guess I can't complain with my time. I just need to practice the transitions and push myself harder next time. Overall, I was happy to finish a triathlon (lifetime goal).
