Swim
Comments: Water was 1 degree too warm for wetsuits. Everyone's swim time was slow. We swam against a current on the last length. No wetsuit + a small current slowed me down a bit. The water was very cloudy, and I couldn't seen my arms, nor could I see anyone else to draft. My start was good ( about 5 yards from the front in the middle. I was passing people on the 1st length. Sighting was good and I was swimming straight. The last length threw me off a little but I felt I was swimming well. I would have liked to have taken at least a minute off here. What would you do differently?: Nothing much to do. I didn't sprint, but I was focusing on good form and sighting well since I really couldn't see to draft. Transition 1
Comments: Good run thru T1. No wetsuit to take off. I made sure that I did not sit down, but I couldn't get my right bike shoe on. Probably would have been faster to sit down, and even faster to already have them on my bike and get them on while riding. What would you do differently?: Learn to get feet into shoes while riding. Bike
Comments: Very happy with this, even though I wanted to and could have gone sub 2:30. But I needed to keep my HR down so that I would have some legs for the run. I decided to stand up during the turns onto other roads. I had to slow down anyway and this gave my back a stretch. I also stood up and pedaled twice for about 30 seconds toward the end of Egypt Rd. This didn't slow me down any, just gave my back a stretch. Nutrition - I had Perpetuem in a flask and took a shot about every 30 mins along with Endurolyte pills. I also had a bottle of EFS, which I usually don't like, but this was good on a hot and humid day. I starting drinking this every 5 miles at mile 35. I also went thru almost 2 aero bottles full of water. What would you do differently?: Nothing, I am happy that I saved my legs for the run. It seems as though too many others pushed it hard on the bike and bonked on the run. Transition 2
Comments: Ran off my bike found my rack, helmet off, bike shoes off, race # belt was already on from the bike, visor on, grabbed my run gel flask, but forgot to take off my HR monitor (can't run with it). This only took maybe 10 seconds to turn around, but I still forgot to take it off. My transition times are improving. Under 5 mins total is great for me. What would you do differently?: Practice, and remember to take off HR monitor. Run
Comments: My goal was 1:45 in normal conditions. The heat changed that. But I still told myself that no matter what, keep on moving, one foot in front ot the other and don't walk, except in water stops as needed. I took a flask with me made of 1/2 Perpetuem and 1/2 EFS gel. Also took Endurolyte pills. This worked nicely. I had a shot at mile 1, mile 5 and then about every 3 miles. I also took and Endurolyte pill about the same time. I kept telling myslef that this is now about mental toughness and electrolyte mgmt. I was watching my time and realized that 8 min miles would be tough, but to make up as much time as possible after walking thru each aid station and grabbing everything that I could. Water, Pepsi, Gatorade, and ice, and more ice down my back, and water on my head. I also had a goal of running thru Riverside Dr and finishing strong. Both happened, and were not even a question at the time. I was hot and tired, but not bonking or needing to walk at all. I passed and saw way too many people walking and overheated. Toward the end I was running as fast as I could and I heard a woman yelling at me "Now that's how you finish a damn 1/2 Ironman"! What would you do differently?: Nothing. I expcted the heat, and went for a few long runs in the heat during the month leading up to the race. Post race
Warm down: Water, shade, water, shade, gatorade, water, shade, and massage. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat, but I am not complaining about that. Yes the water temp was warm and not wetsuit legal, which slowed down the swim, but the winds on the bike were not as strong as usual, and it was once again real hot on the run. But I was trained both physically and mentally to handle this. Event comments: It was great to see FeXY teammates at each transition cheering me on, and getting some hi fives at the end of the run in the chute screaming my name. That felt really good. Having the FeXY BAT is awesome! Having a Coach and seeing other FeXY teammates on the course was awesome! Being there and experiencing this with FeXY was awesome! During the whole race, my motto was to "Appreciate and Enjoy This Experience". While it hurt, I do Appreciate the fact that I can do this well. And I can Enjoy my success! And I'll never forget how proud I am of Lisa for becoming a World Class Triathlete and qualifying for the IronMan 70.3 World Championships in Clearwater Fl in Nov 2010. Can't wait to cheer her on there! Last updated: 2010-06-16 12:00 AM

All nutrition, bottles, and flasks prepared the night before. Lights out at 9:30 pm. Wake up at 4 am. 5 minute run around the parking lot to wake up the body. Coffee, pb&j, banana, Ironman Perform drink at hotel. Left at 5:15, got to the site in plenty of time.
Walked to the site from the car. 5 minute warm up swim. I felt loose and ready. The heat and humidity was warming me up just fine.
