Swim
Comments: The start suprised everyone including me. I stayed to the outside for the most part, didn't come into contact with hardly anyone, probably increased my time, but the Chris West approach was not too bad, I didn't feel as clostrophobic. Overall, I was really happy with my time, I didn't feel that great, but I was consistent from beginning to end, I don't think I slowed down at all so I had a great pace. 13:05 last time, so pretty much the same, and I'm happy with that. Transition 1
Comments: Not bad, I was out of practice with my wetsuit. My suit did get stuck on my heels, I had to sit down for a sec and get them out. Overall, I was not too bad. I took my shoes off the pedals, the running wasn't bad with shoes on, I don't know if I would have had too much improvement in time if I left the shoes on. You could pretty much mount whenever you wanted. Bike
Comments: Course was really nice. I felt waaay better than I anticipated. I took the first hill down to the main road at about 53 mph, passed 3 or 4 guys right off the bat. Middle of the course was good, I felt like I reserved enough energy to really finish up good with the run. I avged 16.8 mph the last time I did the course, so 18+ mph is a significant improvement! New bike contributed maybe?? I passed more people than passed me and that's always a plus. Transition 2
Comments: They take the bike, and it was on a down hill, so I almost didn't get my feet out in time, but recovered nicely and got off the bike pretty easily. The zoot shoes were great! On really fast and secured even faster. Run
Comments: I felt the best on the run, which again was a huge suprise. I paced myself very good and overall didn't drop that pace for the entirety. Again, I think I passed more people (5) than passed me (4). Some that passed me were on a team though. Felt great! Post race
Warm down: Didn't stretch as much as I should have. I was sore for 2 days! Bad stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: I was still around 6 lbs overweight. I think if I were lighter, I would have done a little better. Event comments: Great event, this is one where having someone with me would be great, I had to hitch a ride back to the start due to the different transition locations. Drove from Hurricane, woke up at 5:45, ate a bowl of cereal, grabbed an ensure and bought a gatorade and water for the trip. I drank 3/4 of the ensure by about 7:00 and sipped water.
Trainer for about 20 minutes, did it at 9 am, an hour before the race
