Pre-race routine:

English muffin w/ peanut butter

Event warmup:

  • 15m 8s
  • 500 meters
  • 03m / 100 meters

Slow steady - decent sighting - almost horizontal the whole swim. I was actually pretty happy with the swim until I saw the time.
What would you do differently?:

Just keep swimming, it's getting better. (at least as far as distance)
Transition 1
  • 00m

No time - got added to the bike time

I swam with socks for the first time since I was tired of fighting the socks in T1. I actually thought it helped quite a bit.
  • 35m 45s
  • 14 miles
  • 23.50 mile/hr

Brand new bike I have other ridden once. I didn't have my Power Tap installed so I was only using Garmin speed data. I had a solid bike with 23-24MPH average on the Garmin most of the ride. I really love the new bike but it will take a bit of getting used to from my road bike to really get all the benefit from the change.

I blew my banana at about mile 11 and kept riding.
What would you do differently?:

Ease up on the Gatorade for a sprint. I drank too much Gatorade and I think the more compact position on the tri bike caused the issue. I guess I will try something different and hope for different results.
Transition 2
  • 01m 25s

The only damn bike on the rack and he racked right where I needed to go. Even better, he knocked the rack down so the bike seat wouldn't fit under the rack. Screwing with this cost me some time.
What would you do differently?:

I have to learn how to ride on the pedals so I can move through transition without cleats. It was a long distance from the mount / dismount to my rack position.
  • 34m 27s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 09m 50s  min/mile

suck, suck, suck
vomit twice
suck, suck, suck
What would you do differently?:

Keep running in the heat to try to get better. I suck at running in the high humidity / heat. I could not get going on this run.

Again, ease up on the Gatorade and mostly go for water.

Event comments:

This race was incredible. It had the vibe of an Ironman branded event (although I have only been to one). Aaron and team did an awesome job at pulling all the feedback in from the last race and making nearly everything happen that could be done to make it better. The timing folks dropped the ball a bit again but I wouldn't hold that against the RD. Food, course set up , transition, drinks, music, awards, SWAG in the packet...excellent. Hopefully this run won't kick my tail next time - I plan to take another shot at this course next year.

Time is a guess (total time for T1 + bike = 37:17). Garmin read 23.5 when I crossed the line so hopefully this is fairly close.
Wind: None
Course: Nice course that I have ridden many times. No wind was rare and very nice surprise. Road is a little rough in a section on Fry that I don't ride. I wonder if we could go further the other way and eliminate that section? The road is not that bad either way.
