Swim
Comments: when the swim started it was raining and still kind of dark out but it was time to go. i started some where in the middle of the 100 or so in the second wave. after about 100 yrds i got a nice mouthful of water. gaged a bit but continued on. hard to tell if i was passing people or they were passing me. glad i rented the full wetsuit. it really helped me. What would you do differently?: since i really never swam a lick before june i was happy with the results. Transition 1
Comments: had a hard time getting wetsuit off. Bike
Comments: course was a fun ride. temp was perfect, around sixty. the rain had stopped for the bike part. glad i didn't wear socks they would have been soaked. What would you do differently?: trained a little more but wet roads were going to slow me down either way. Transition 2
Comments: when i got off the bike i got turned around and went the wrong way back to my tran spot. i knew i was by a tree but ran to the wrong tree. i had to calm down so i could find it. then i remember it was near the volleyball court, right were i left it! i put socks on for the run otherwise the backs of my feet would have been raw and bleeding by the end of the run. they were dry enough so i could put them on easy. What would you do differently?: look for the entry point of the end of the bike ride so i would know which way to head. Run
Comments: i knew i could run the 10k i just didn't know how the hills would play in to it. so i took it easy. i didn't want to aggravate my leg. started to rain about 1 mile in to the run (it actually felt good.) many runners past me but i was able to past about 4. i ran the whole course (no walking) and that was important to me. i would like to say i had more to give but i was gassed by the time i finished. What would you do differently?: run more hills? Post race
Warm down: stood in the rain. got some food tried. What limited your ability to perform faster: not training more Event comments: did a sprint a few weeks earlier but wanted to do an olympic tri and did it. not bad considering 11 months ago i weighed 260 lbs. (lost 70) smoked about a pack a day (quit) and drank pretty heavy (slowed way down.) thinking about doing some more oly's next year and who knows maybe a half. Last updated: 2010-06-18 12:00 AM

we stayed at a hotel in lake geneva, so it was about a 20 min drive to fontana. got up about 4am had a half pb&j and some water and a vitamin. left for race, light rain on the drive over. the fam slept in and would head over later. that really helped because i wouldn't have to worry about what they needed to go i could just leave when i was ready.
got to fontana about 5:15am was worried about parking but was not problem parked across from the transition area. got set up went back to the car to get wet suit. noticed some guys sitting in their car so i got in my and relaxed and listened to the radio. was going to go back to transition area about 5:45 but rain started pouring down. checked radar on phone and decided to wait out the rain in the car. it stopped about 20 min later so i went back to trans area and put on the wet suit and i was ready for the start. best call of the day was staying dry and relaxed in the car.
