Swim
Comments: This was the messiest swim start I've ever had! But it was FUN!!! We all thrashing like whoa. There were so many faster swimmers that I got a nice pull for a few yards! Breathed three times on each side then switched. I like this strategy. What would you do differently?: Nada. Transition 1
Comments: I thought I was damn speedy, but four others in our age group beat me on their T1 time. What would you do differently?: No socks? I wanted to save my feet though. No blisters for Lake Placid! Bike
Comments: There was a BIG gap between my time and the faster times. I tried to keep my legs moving. Dropped my water bottle. Had half a gel at the turn around. What would you do differently?: There was a two-three minute gap between my time and the faster times. How do I get faster?! It's those damn hills I tell you! Transition 2
Comments: The two gals in my AG that beat me beat me by 10 seconds, I think they didn't have bike shoes? What would you do differently?: I was pretty happy with this, took a hot second to get my bike re-racked. Run
Comments: I should have been able to go faster... I walked up the damn. What would you do differently?: Not walk up the damn. SERIOUSLY work on my brick runs. Post race
Warm down: Cheering the others on and drinking a LOT of iced tea! What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of speed work. Event comments: This race is the PERFECT tune up for Ironman Lake Placid!!!! The hills are on par with getting the legs ready for a hilly ride. Not much exciting stuff for a post race meal (compared to Keuka, Musselman, Black Bear). Was there a DJ this year?? No massage tent.. hmm Would like to see this race turn into an EVENT, not just a race. On the really bright side... this is the largest I've seen the race. I believe they had 140 athletes in it. Last night I did some P90X stretching. Got up at 7 and had a pretty good night's sleep. Choked on a piece of banana bread with a big gob of peanut butter. Drank a Gatorade. On the road at 7:30am.
Ran around like a chicken with no head, making little progress. Threw some supplies at the nice people helping with the tri club tent, set up TA, gathered for a group photo. Got in a swim....maybe 400 yards? I could have swam longer, but this was enough to warm up. Threw in 3 or 4 quick "pick ups"/builds to get the muscles thinking about going fast(er).
