Pre-race routine:

Ate a peanut butter bagel, packed up the campsite, helped load Josh's stuff because he rode to the tri with me. Went to the triathlon, wandered around and had some coffee and lots of water.
Swim

  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

There were lots of lifeguards and I was really impressed by the organization of the swim. They did delay for a half hour because of weather concerns but that's better than having someone struck by lightnening on the swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m 45s
Comments:

They had wetsuit strippers and I figured I'd see how that worked. It was a little weird but it was quicker than taking off the wetsuit myself. When I got back I discovered the woman next to me had hung her dripping wetsuit over my running shoes, which was lovely

Comments:

Discovered at this point just how wet my running shoes were. I started the run with soggy squishy shoes.

Comments:

I felt good for the run but was taking it as a training day so I slowed down to talk to an old friend from La Crosse for a while but when he had to walk I ran ahead and caught up to Josh (JMeserole)and we finished together. I probably could have finished faster but it was nice to finish with company.
Post race
Warm down:

Wandering around looking for friends from La Crosse and Madison.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Probably that I had more interest in socializing than racing but that's ok for today.

Event comments:

This is probably the best organized race I have participated in. Not only the course but the aid stations and events were well thought out with an eye for detail. My only two suggestions for this race would be to have endurolytes on the run course and to have a vegetarian option for the post-race meal.
I also saw lots of friends from La Crosse and Madison and it was really nice to catch up with people. One bonus of not killing myself on the course is that I feel really good today and will be able to take the doggy for a walk and do my normal stuff.
I probably could have pushed it more but I really enjoyed the race more the way I did it. I think this race is one I will do next year.

Course: The course was really nice. There were numbered bouys really frequently so it was really easy to sight and know where you were. Water was crystal clear. We started in the water about chest deep. They had the men go in the first waves because women in previous races complained about the guys swimming over them and you know, no one swam over me :)

Course: It was a nice, fairly flat course. There was one spot with lots of potholes that wasn't so much fun and a couple areas where the road was fairly bumpy but otherwise not a bad course. There were several bottle exchanges but I used what I had. It rained quite hard for a portion of the bike but there were no storms at least.

Course: Not bad. One hill at miles six that is really long and the nasty bluff at mile 9.4. They had signs on the bluff. Where there is normally a sign of a truck going up the hill they had a sign of a person walking and crawling up a hill, then there were signs like "I think I can I think I can." It was pretty funny.
