Swim
Comments: This was one of my worst swims ever. I never got a feel for the water and couldn't find my stroke. It was my first OWS without a wetsuit and I just couldn't get into it. I should have cut about 3-4 minutes off this swim if I had positioned myself better and swam my race. What would you do differently?: I don't know what my problem was. I think it is all mental. The only thing to do is practice. I can swim a 8:30 in the pool, but haven't swam much in OW this year. And never swim without my wetsuit. Guess I need to practice practice practice. :) Transition 1
Comments: Good transition. Didn't put on socks. This helped a bit. Good smooth transition for me. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Just hurry more. Bike
Comments: Good bike. I really pushed it and made up a lot of time from my poor swim. I was passing tons of people and was never permanently passed. There were several people that did catch me at one point or another, but I passed them back and left them in the dust. I was a little worried about the congestion in the park, but people were good about staying right and allowing you to pass. What would you do differently?: Nothing, I left it all on the course. By far my best segment. Transition 2
Comments: This was a very fast transition. I was on the far side of transition to the run out, so this included the time running across transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: This was an o.k. run for me. First brick in almost 2 years. Didn't feel very good for the first mile, but was able to pick up the pace and really smoked the last mile (probably about 7 min pace). Wanted to finish sub 24, so failed there, but was generally happy with the run. What would you do differently?: Do more bricks. My legs were really smoked coming off the bike and it took too long to recover. Post race
Warm down: Collapsed in the grass and had some drink. Then walked around and talked with the family. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim was awful. I probably could have won or taken second in my age group with even a decent swim. I've got some work to do there. It is all mental. Event comments: This was a good race, well organized and a bunch of great people. I would definitely do this race again. Last updated: 2010-06-23 12:00 AM

Got up around 4am. Packed up all my stuff in the car and headed out to the race site around 5:30. Set up transition and got a prime spot. Then hung out. Kept on the long sleeve shirt and sweats to avoid the bugs.
Not much. Ran about a 1/2 mile and swam about 100 yards.
