![]() Swim
Comments: Surprisingly there was virtually no current. Waves were made up of groups of 50. The start was a little crowded, but thinned out quickly. We caught the wave ahead of us not far after the 100m mark. The rest of the swim went really well. The chop was low, so breathing was easy. I veered of course once costing myself about 15-20 seconds. What would you do differently?: This was my first open water swim that I prepared for by swim 200m in the river the evening before the race. Next time I will definitely practice spotting much earlier before the race. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Don't know how to do a flying start yet, so I need to get that down before my next tri. What would you do differently?: Learn to do a flying start. ![]() Bike
Comments: Should have pushed harder during the first quarter of the course. I don't have a computer, so I had nonclue what my speed and cadence were. What would you do differently?: Get a computer and put more miles on the bike. Try to avg 22mph or faster ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Felt like I had a quick transition but the chip timer did not get my split. What would you do differently?: Learn to strap of shoes while on bike. ![]() Run
Comments: Held a less than average pace. I would have liked to be at 6min pace. What would you do differently?: Put in more miles. I'm coming off compartment syndrome in my calf, but I should be able to up mileage now. ![]() Post race
Warm down: 2 mile jog, a lot of stretching, and a lot of fluids. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not being able to put in enough time on the bike and having to limit myself to < 25 miles a week on the run. Event comments: Very well organized, though the race started 10 min behind schedule. This was due to a long prerace meeting, which isn't a bad thing. The course was fast and the river was beautiful that day. The overcast helped a lot. The lower temperatures helped 8 men to beat the previous course record. Overall great event. Plenty of food and drinks after the race. Ironhead puts on a great event every time. Last updated: 2010-06-23 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30 and layer around for twenty min before getting up. I ate a 20g Protein Clif Bar and drank a 29g protein drink with a 5 hour energy. Got to transition at 5:30 and set up with plenty of time to stretch/warm-up.
Jogged a mile with a buddy of mine who did the Olympic distance then got a good amount of stretching in.
