Warm down: After crossing the finish line, I walked to the transition area to get my bike and towel. Event comments: Since this was my first multisport event, I didn't have a lot of expectations. I thought it was well organized and went off without a hitch. The only downside was that it started storming really bad a couple hours after the start of the race. I was on the road by then but I'm guessing that the tents were still set up and there were many people that stuck around for the awards ceremony. Luckily, I had no pain during the running portion, which was awesome! I kept repeating in my head what Mo had said the day before ("hips forward and let your feet land behind you not under you.") I'll have to remember to thank him later for the great advice. So simple and practical :) My first run was better than my normal pace (just under 10:00/mi). The bike segment was good but had a lot of headwind for the first half. Unfortunately I started getting stomach cramps about 3 miles in. Shallow breathing and sitting up every once in a while helped alleviate some of the pain so I managed. The last run segment was a little slower than I would've liked as I had to walk a little. I ended up running most of it though so I was pretty happy with myself. Overall, great race for a first timer and one I will definitely do again next year! Last updated: 2010-06-23 12:00 AM

Woke up around 5:15 to give myself plenty of time to pack up and make sure I got to the race site at least an hour early. Had some cereal and a banana. Packed all my gear, post race food, and hit the road. Traffic was light and it ended up only taking me about 35 minutes to get there.
Got my bib number and timing chip. Got my bike and found a spot in the transition area. There weren't numbers on the racks so it was just a "pick a spot that's open" type setup. Most of the spots close to the Bike Out area were taken so I ended up getting one closer to the Run In spot, which just meant that I would have to walk/run with my bike through most of the transition area. No big deal, I thought.
After I racked my bike, I walked around the transition area to familiarize myself a little more and plan my strategy. (Haha, who am I kidding?! I didn't have a real strategy other than grab my bike, throw on my cycling shoes, and out I go!)
I'd gone on an easy 2 mile run the day before and had some ankle/calf pain. Ended up going to Mox and got some new insoles and some running tips from Mo. I did an easy running warm up and was trying improve my running posture. The pain started up again and I though "uh oh, hopefully I'll be able to finish the race!" I ended up walking back from my warm up and stretched a little more. Just had to keep my fingers crossed and hoped that the pain wouldn't be unbearable during the actual race.
