Run
Comments: The run went well. I wasn't expecting to set a PR or anything. The first 3-4 miles were on pretty flat single track that wound thru the woods. Mile 4-10 were on Jeep roads and single track but it started to turn uphill. Miles 10-13 were straight uphill on dirt roads, with mile 11 seemingly vertical. I wlked most of it, but only got passed by 1 person because almost everyone walked. Once I hit the top and started coming down in the single track, I felt like I was flying. The first 5-6 miles coming down felt really good, but after that my legs were hurting from the pounding of constant downhill running. Around mile 20 it started to flatten out a bit. At mile 24 we hit the park and had about 1 mile of pavement which wasnt' fun after 24 miles of dirt, but finished semi-strongly on the trail forthe last mile. What would you do differently?: Nothing. It isn't a PR type of race, but a very relaxed fun event Post race
Warm down: walked around ate a little, went back to the resort to pack up for hte drive What limited your ability to perform faster: hills Event comments: This was a fantastic race. Bend is absolutely beautiful and a great place to make a destination race. I took my wife a 5 and 8 yr olds for 6 days and we had a blast. From exploring the surrounding volcanoes, to riding up to the top of Mt. bachelor, floating along the Deschutes River, golf, the Old Mill District, I can't name a place that we have had a better time. The race was small, but was very organized, from packet pick-up, to the race shuttles. There were ample water stops with good volunteers, more gels adn such than I have ever seen at a marathon, and a fun post-race spread. Great race! Last updated: 2010-06-23 12:00 AM
