Swim
Comments: Thank goodness for the course volunteers! I was heading for the opposite shore, about 45° off course, when they took pity on me, and suggested I redirect my efforts more in line with the course. I swim like a tugboat, but I was just getting comfortable with my stroke and breathing when it was time to stand up and run to the transition area. What would you do differently?: Peek more often at the buoys and stay on course; make a conscious effort to go slower at the start, increase speed when I'm warmed up Transition 1
Comments: Getting into shoes clipped on the bike isn't as easy as it looks. Practice, Practice, Practice. Trying to reach down and fasten straps on shoes, I went off course and nearly ran over some innocent spectators (Sorry about that) What would you do differently?: Sit down when putting on socks Bike
Comments: Rough start, but seemed good and fairly fast once I got started. Although it felt like I was going pretty fast, the clock says otherwise. Looking back, I think I was trying to save energy, and I was too distracted with all the gears on my new bike, attempting to use them to maximum efficiency distracted me from a better effort. What would you do differently?: Stand up on the hills -- Its a sprint; what am I saving myself for? Transition 2
Comments: Fingers didn't want to work when tying laces - a little numb from the ride What would you do differently?: Shake hands out on the way into T2; FOCUS on what I'm doing Run
Comments: Running was the best part of the triathlon for me. I don't have the technique for swimming; I don't have the familiarity with equipment for efficient biking (new bike); but I have a little experience in running, and ignoring discomfort. It's a psychological boost to pass people on the run who were halfway through the bike course before I got out of the water. What would you do differently?: Tie my shoes better. Post race
Warm down: Changed into drier clothes. Greeted and congratulated my fellow triathletes; thanked as many volunteers and EMTs as I could. Said a prayer of thanks for once again not drowning. What limited your ability to perform faster: Genetics, insufficient open water and cycle training, mental focus and attitude Event comments: The most fun you can have on a weekday night if you can't afford a Porsche, and can't get a date with Megan Fox Last updated: 2010-06-24 12:00 AM

Arrived late, changed in car, fixed registration snafu, aired up tires, barely made it into the transition area by closing. I always promise to pack the night before but next time for sure
Swam a little, got used to water temperature. Looked around for friends, others in my age group, and general ability level
