Pre-race routine:

Got up way too early for the 90 mile drive to Annendale with Kelly. She slept. Hung out with Joe, Ben and a few others while Kelly looked kind of sickly. She just wasn't feeling so hot.
Event warmup:

Neglected to do a pre-ride or a pre swim. This would come back to get me on the swim I'm afraid.
Swim
  • 15m 32s
  • 800 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was not a good swim for me at all. Felt like it took forever and I got beat up the entire time. I always do 5-10 minutes of swimming before a race and just didn't feel like it today. Lesson learned. Although, I don't want to blame the poor swim on no pre swim entirely.
What would you do differently?:

Warm-up.
Transition 1
  • 02m 55s
Comments:

Not a great transition but not as bad as it looks. This is a very long transition area and my age group is not put in a very good spot.
What would you do differently?:

Either become an elite or get much older.
Bike
  • 57m 32s
  • 21 miles
  • 21.90 mile/hr
Comments:

I was pretty happy with this ride. The wind made for a pretty tough first half of the ride and was in your face on some inopportune hills. Still, this was close to a pr ride for me and I'm happy with it.
Transition 2
  • 02m 27s
Comments:

Lost a lot of ground on competitors due to transitions.
Run
  • 44m 38s
  • 5.3 miles
  • 08m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a tough run. I did my 12 mile run on friday for marathon training in hopes I would have enough recovery time for this race. Legs felt good for the first 14 miles of the bike and then I felt them fade. This run was a real sufferfest. Legs were dead the whole time and hills were awfull. I'm actually very surprised I kept it under 8:30's. Despite how bad it felt it was still a pretty average run for me.
What would you do differently?:

Not do a long run 2 days before a race.
Post race
Warm down:

Just make it through the finish line and hook up with friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No warm up and tired legs

Event comments:

There were a lot of rocks this year in the beach area. Both my feet are bruised up and hurting. Despite that this is still my favorote race of the year. They do a great job and eventually I will get below 2 hours on it.
