Swim
Comments: I started off too fast and really wished I had a warm up. HR went up quickly and I had a hard time getting it come down. I was in front by a 100 yards by the first buoy. But took in a big gulp of water and had a hard time catching my breath. Another swimmer in my wave caught me between buoys 1-2. Also start catching the earlier wave, but still not able to get back into a good rhythm. I was a little better after rounding the 2nd buoy and stayed even with the other swimmer from my wave. I looked at my watch when I exited the water and it said 9:10. Not bad overall. There was then a few hundred yard run up a sandy road to T1. Had top of wetsuit and goggles off by the time I entered T1. What would you do differently?: Warm up. Start off slower and get into a good rhythm first. Also, practice more OWS with Wetsuit. Transition 1
Comments: Adrenaline and HR were still running high. Wetsuit came off easy and put helmet and sun glasses on, but realized I pulled my bike out before I put my cycling shoes on so had to balance the bike while I put them on. All in all, not a bad T1. What would you do differently?: either put shoes on before pulling bike out or learn to mount bike with shoes attached to pedals. Bike
Comments: It was a 2 lap course. HR was still high getting on bike. At this point I realized my plan to keep my HR lower went out the window and I decided I would live in zone 5 for most of the race. For my first Tri, I was pretty happy with my bike, especially since I was on a road bike. I think only 2 people passed me (on tri bikes). Lap 2 was a little faster and more efficient than lap 1. I probably could have gone a little faster, but I was nervous about the run. What would you do differently?: Push a little harder. Transition 2
Comments: Feet out of shoes while rolling into T1. Racked bike, Put running shoes on and had a shot of gel and quick drink of water. I felt T2 was quick. What would you do differently?: Not much Run
Comments: I am not a runner so this was my worst leg. But overall, I did better than I expected. I ran the entire way and kept a consistent pace. I had a hard time keeping cool though. It was starting to get hot and humid. When I passed the 1 mile sign, I thought it was mile 2 (it felt like more than 1 mile) so I was a little thrown off. What would you do differently?: Run more Post race
Warm down: walked and drank water. Had a hard time cooling down, but happy to be finished. Last few hundred yards were hard. Event comments: Great volunteers and well organized. Cant wait to do this one again next year. My only complaint was the timing chips. We had to wear 3 and I think there were some timing issues. ex. I dont think both of Transitions were 1:00 min. Up at 5:30am. Took a quick shower to wake up. Ate a bowl of cereal and a yogurt and a cup of coffee. At the race at 6:30. Picked up race packet and got numbered (160). Set up transition area. This was my first Tri so I was a little nervous.
No warm up. Although, I wish I got a short swim in first
