Pre-race routine:

Got dropped off about 1 hour before race start. Ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a bottle of gatorade. Felt very good at the start. I had to hit the porta-john a couple of times for a nervous stomach, but once I got in the water I felt great.
Event warmup:

Did some light stretching. But I feel the swim warms me up just fine.
Swim
  • 24m 30s
  • 1094 yards
  • 02m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

Goggles got fogged up. Made sighting difficult. Also, starting in a pack is tough. Spent a lot of time getting around other swimmers. Probably should have started closer to the front
What would you do differently?:

Start closer to the front and de fog the goggles before hand
Transition 1
  • 04m
Comments:

I was surprised how far we had to walk in transition. This added a lot of time to my race. But I wouldn't have run through it. Better to save the energy for the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, good transitions. I should have brought a banana on the bike ride.
Bike
  • 1h 03m 50s
  • 17.5 miles
  • 16.45 mile/hr
Comments:

Great ride. I probably could have gone harder. I did stop for a couple of minutes for a fallen rider. I sure hope he's ok. It was a bad spill. I really wanted to save my strength for the run. Getting my speed up to the 18's wouldn't have been a problem, but I rode the race I planned so that was good.
What would you do differently?:

Probably gone a little faster. Going a little slower didn't help my running endurance at all.
Transition 2
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

I ride with my running shoes on so transition is pretty much get my shorts on and strap on the knee straps. Everything went very smooth.
What would you do differently?:

I wouldn't bring the water bottle with me next time. Take the time and get some fluids, then go.
Run
  • 34m 56s
  • 3.4 miles
  • 10m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

I need to get stronger. I walk way too much. Very very slow run time.
What would you do differently?:

Need to do more bricks to run stronger off the bike. Way too much walking. But my thighs are soooo tired.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around with a cold towel, got my bike and gear, got in the car and drove home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Running strength and endurance. I felt great getting off the bike and really the first 10 minutes of the run was fine. After that, I was extremely fatigued.

Event comments:

It was awesome. anything wrong with this race is my performance. The race management and volunteers were awesome. Also the police that were out on the bike course. It was great
