Swim
Comments: Felt great on this swim. My goal was to do about 40 minutes which I accomplished. Glad I chose the clear goggles as it was overcast the entire time. Got a little off course on the way back to shore but managed to line up with the bouys without too much trouble. The swimmers were a little more aggressive than I am used to in training, but I stayed calm and just tried maintain a good, even stroke. Transition 1
Comments: Probably a little slow, but I felt ok trying to get my bearings and make sure I had all my clif blocks in my pocket. I need to practice getting the wetsuit off while running to the bike. Bike
Comments: My bike computer died at the start so I really had no idea of pace other than feel. I felt really good and was not passed nearly as much as I thought I would be and in fact passed several people on the hills which surprised me. That gave me some confidence. Biking is my weakest discipline and I really thought I would need 3.5 hours to finish this. I had heard the course was tough but I felt really prepared for it and did not find the hills that bad at all. The toughest part was between mile 30-40 when I just wanted it over, but I caught a second wind and had a fast last 10 miles. What would you do differently?: I never came near this pace in training so I am very happy with this ride. I think my training is paying off and I just need to stick with it to get a little stronger on the hills and build my confidence. Transition 2
Comments: I actually changed into my running shorts. I am glad I did and it was worth the time to feel comfortable and dry on the run. Run
Comments: Felt good on the run. I picked up speed in the second half after my legs adjusted. I ran the entire thing and really thought it was manageable. I was very happy for the cool rain. This would have been a really brutal course on a hot sunny day. What would you do differently?: Maybe I would do one longer brick and one more 13 mile run in training. But I was aiming for two hours and this course, it turns out, is a little long so I am happy. Post race
Warm down: Met husband and kids and friends at the finish. Walked around, bought a sweatshirt. Felt sore but ok. Event comments: Great race in a great town. This was my first half ironman and I had no idea what to expect. I really thought I was looking at a 6:30 finish so I am very happy with my final time. The bike was a lot faster than I expected and the run was easier than I thought. All in all, I enjoyed this experience very much and looking forward to the next one! Last updated: 2010-06-27 12:00 AM

Woke up before 5. Oatmeal, banana and coffee. Picked up my friend and was at the course by 6. We had a plenty of time to get our chips and set up transition area. Very well organized.
None--just setting up.
