![]() Swim
Comments: Swimming is my weakness. This race I was trying to get out of the water in 30 minutes. Started in the middle at the back of the pack because I know most other guys will swim faster than me. When I looked at my watch as I exited the water it said 30:38 so I was close to my goal time. I felt good on the swim and for once didn't push myself and just swam a normal pace. Tried to draft, but I feel like I am putting more effort into finding a person than if I were to just swim. Overall a good swim for me. What would you do differently?: Would be happy if I swim like this for the 70.3 ![]() Transition 1
Comments: I put my shoes on prior to getting on the bike. I just feel I am faster this way. This T1 time is about my average. I did have trouble getting my wetsuit off my left heal. ![]() Bike
Comments: I was disappointed in my bike. This is usually my strong event, but for some reason the legs were not in it today. They were sore before I turned onto Jay Road and never loosened up. I did good up the hill, however was hoping for over 23mph average for the entire bike. Maybe my legs were still sore from riding up Mt. Evans a few days prior. Oh well... What would you do differently?: Rest the legs more prior to the race ![]() Transition 2
Comments: T2 was a disaster. On the final turn into T2 I took my foot off my shoe and it turned down as was hitting the ground. I couldn't stand on that pedal to dismount unless my foot was on top of the shoe or it would scrape the ground. I had to slow early to flip the shoe over. Once I got to my spot on the rack another biker had put his bike in my spot on the opposite side. He changed his bike so his handlebars were over the holding bar and it took up a lot of space. I was able to place my bike at an angle next to his so I wouldn't take over any other persons spot. This threw my concentration off and I couldn't remember what I needed to do. I felt like I was forgetting something, but I was just out of sink. What would you do differently?: Throw the other guys bike on the ground. Just kidding, I guess not everything can go perfectly smooth. ![]() Run
Comments: Start of run is always hard. Started following this girl that was holding a 7:30 pace and was fine with that. She started slowing at 2 miles so I passed her and kept up the 7:30 pace until 4 miles. Was feeling good so I picked up the pace and was able to hold about 7:00/miles for the rest of the run. Had a very strong finish and that just tells me I had too much gas in the tank... What would you do differently?: Probably should have held 7:00 min/miles for entire run. Was getting hot and have never run just a 10K before. I have raced longer and shorter, but didn't know how well I would do at 10K. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Beer and pizza! What limited your ability to perform faster: If I knew there was Pizza at the finish I would have been faster. Event comments: Very well organized compared to the sprint. Swim course was not the way they planned in the pre race brochure. I think it was left hand turns and a rectangle. I feel sorry for the first wave because they were still adjusting the booies. And what was up with the wacky swim course? There was not really a turn at the first yellow marker. Then almost a 180 degree turn at the next yellow marker. Last updated: 2010-06-27 12:00 AM
