Age Group Rank = 17/30
Pre-race routine:

oatmeal. Drove with Emily. Diet coke.
Event warmup:

none
Swim
  • 21m 26s
  • 1094 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

start was very quick. steps were slippery so we had one minute to start announced while most of the women were still on land. Had just enough time to duck my head to test goggles before start.
swim went pretty well, had to keep remembering form- stretching out and rotating.
warm was gross warm. goggles were so foggy at end that I had to breaststroke for a bit just to find the exit.

Used own timing chip and even though I registered, they still have me as unknown in the M 0-19 group. I tried to confirm with the RD when my wave started but I think it was 6 min after first wave.
What would you do differently?:

defog goggles. focus on keeping head down
Transition 1
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

changed mind and decided to go w/o socks on bike. pony tail in way of getting helmet seated correctly.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 41s
  • 23 miles
  • 17.54 mile/hr
Comments:

may have gone out a little hard but wanted to push it since there was some more recovery on way back. second half felt pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

switch between font gears more to use big gear instead of spinning out as much.
Transition 2
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

put on socks. had regular ties on shoes.
What would you do differently?:

add quick laces to this pair of shoes.
Run
  • 41m 58s
  • 4.4 miles
  • 09m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

felt good off bike. got a mentally discouraged on back half, feeling tired and hot. Walked several times. Probably could have walked less. Had to pee, really. Happy with time even with walk breaks.
What would you do differently?:

more run training for pushing through.
Post race
Warm down:

walking and some stretching.

Event comments:

bbq dinner after. not very hungry anyways but brisket is never appealing to me after a workout. Would have been very good for race officials to scrub the steps for the water entry. several people slipped and it was hard to get in before the start of the wave.

Hoping for under 2:30 and made it. Race had many more experienced participants than past tris that were full of beginners.

## of 138 women.
