Swim
Comments: The current was so strong that the organizers changed the course after the first two waves. The first two waves were carried way off course. I was in the third wave, and it was not too bad. However, due to the change of plans, the start was delayed. I debated on whether to wear neoprene booties (they were allowed due to water temp), and I wore them and was happy about that (a bit slower but I could feel my feet). Transition 1
Comments: The T1 is a run up the beach to the timing pad and then a 3/4 mile run down a gravel path to the transition area. You could store shoes outside the water and pick up on exit. This was a bit different, but ok. What would you do differently?: Put my shoes on and actually run to the transition area. Bike
Comments: Very hilly, 6-loop course, but pleasant course through a portion of the Presidio. There was some fog, so it could be chilly. There was nobody checking your laps, so devise your own system to do this. What would you do differently?: Get my derailers tuned up next time because I had to stop and manually change gears a few times. Transition 2
Comments: I spent more time than usual in T2 because my feet were real sandy and I didn't want blisters. It was worth the time for me. Run
Post race
Event comments: The location and course were great but the event organizer seemed a little disorganized - directions on bike course were great, but directions on run course could have been better, and the run could have had mile markers or at least volunteers who knew the mileage. The body marks didn't have age, which was a little odd. The swim start and the first two swim waves that were carried way off course were a little scary. There certainly could have been better planning and more kayak coverage in the water. Also a system to count laps would be helpful and would eliminate "odd" bike times.
