![]() Swim
Comments: I was nervous about swimming and I let it get to me too much. I was too tentative and didn't just swim which is why I took so long. But happy I made it through especially for a first timer. What would you do differently?: Just swim more aggressively and do it. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: the transition up from the beach was long, and I was tired from the swim, but it was ok. Got my wet suit off and rinsed my feet off w/ water, dried and into socks, shoes, shirt, helmet and sunglasses. Happy to be on the bike and started going. What would you do differently?: don't know yet. ![]() Bike
Comments: I just did my own thing, I'm not a racer on a bike, but I had a lot of fun and pushed as hard as I felt like I wanted to for the first time. Had fun with the view and watching the people pass me. Saw my wife and the boys entering the bike in and that put a huge smile on my face. What would you do differently?: I would ride a little harder as I think I could easily shave off 6-7 minutes just by working it a little more. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: This was pretty easy since I was already wearing my running shoes on the bike. Double knotted my shoes adn applied some kinesio tape to back of right calf. had one last sip of energy drink and off i went. What would you do differently?: tape both calves as I was having trouble with them but only worried about the right one. ![]() Run
Comments: I was having calf muscle problems all week and didn't know how I was going to hold up. Well, sure enough my right one tightened up, but since I had the kinesio tape on it didn't cramp, but the left one did. I had to walk the first mile or so and then finally it loosened up so I could do a slow jog. Could have easily shaved 10 minutes off of this time without the calf problems. Other than that had a good time, lots of people watching, ringing bells, etc. Really enjoyed it. Saw Kim and the boys again and was very happy to have completed my first race. What would you do differently?: Get my calf muscles in better condition prior to racing. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked around with the family and did some light stretching. drank some water and had some fruit and snacks. What limited your ability to perform faster: fear of the water, not pushing the bike, and calf muscles cramping up Event comments: I really enjoyed my first triathlon and the people, racers, and volunteers were very helpful. I can't wait for my next two which I'm already signed up for. Plan on improving my time by at least 10-20 minutes, maybe more! Last updated: 2010-06-29 12:00 AM

Since this is my first tri, I wasn't sure what my routine should be, so I did what i would usually do before a soccer game or other sport that I play.
Woke early, drank some water, and stretched out a bit. Didn't want to eat because I was afraid I would throw up in the water and I had a nice meal the night before.
Got to the course about 45 minutes early as I was staying at the Embassy next door. Put my bike in place and started getting ready by stretching out, deep breathing...
